Advice on changing the fans on CRS510-8XS-2XQ-IN

Thu Apr 20, 2023 5:14 pm

Hi, I have recently acquired a CRS510-8XS-2XQ-IN switch. The 2 fans on the switch are a little loud for in-home use. I have taken pictures of the fans in the device (attached to this post).

The original fans on the device seem to be this one: https://www.digikey.ee/en/products/deta ... 00/2560520
  • Dimensions: 40x40x20 mm
  • Wires: 3-pin
  • 12V, 0.12A
  • RPM: 7600 RPM
  • Air Flow: 8.54CFM (14.52 m3/h)

I found two Noctua fans that are the same size: (I understand that the airflow of the Noctua fans are less than the original fans.)

Question:
  • Do I have to use the 3-pin fan?
  • Or if I use the 4-pin fan the board is able to leverage the PWM feature of the fan?
  • Do you know of any other fans that could be a better choice?
