hAP ax3 bridge with protocol-mode=none get strangely poor performance in one direction

Fri Apr 21, 2023 6:46 pm

I have a hAP ax3 configured as an AP with all ports bridged connected to a rb5009 that is the router. I noticed that I was only getting ~90Mbps in one direction, but 2.3Gbps in the other. After some testing it turned out that it was because I had protocol-mode=none on the bridge of the hap ax3.

Here are some bandwidth-test results showing the difference:

with protocol-mode=none:
                status: running
              duration: 30s
            tx-current: 2.3Gbps
  tx-10-second-average: 2.3Gbps
      tx-total-average: 2.2Gbps
            rx-current: 95.0Mbps
  rx-10-second-average: 94.2Mbps
      rx-total-average: 87.6Mbps
          lost-packets: 747
           random-data: no
             direction: both
               tx-size: 1500
               rx-size: 1500
      connection-count: 20
        local-cpu-load: 77%
       remote-cpu-load: 60%

with protocol-mode=rtsp:
                status: running
              duration: 7s
            tx-current: 1955.8Mbps
  tx-10-second-average: 2.0Gbps
      tx-total-average: 2.0Gbps
            rx-current: 2.3Gbps
  rx-10-second-average: 2.2Gbps
      rx-total-average: 2.2Gbps
          lost-packets: 17273
           random-data: no
             direction: both
               tx-size: 1500
               rx-size: 1500
      connection-count: 20
