Hap ax2 as wireless bridge

Thu May 11, 2023 4:46 pm

I have a Hap ax3 plugged up to a cable modem as my main router along with an ax2 I am hoping to use in my lab. I am not able to get a wired connection to my lab until I have some time to excavate. Wireless, both 2.5 and 5ghz are strong, so I was hoping to use that to bridge (at least part of) my whole network together.

I noticed that many of the wireless modes are now gone with the change to wave2, so native bridging doesn't work the way it used to. I want to get some hosts connected directly to the ax3 as well as the ax2 on the same L2 network without using a wire. I can't figure out how to to that with the wave2 wireless interfaces. It was simple enough to switch the WAN interface on the interface lists and setup DHCP, but that creates a NAT situation so all the devices can't talk to each other in L2. I also tried just adding the wifi1 to the default configured bridge, but that didn't work either.

Any advice from ya'll? Thanks!

Basic lines ( from memory)
Ax2 in station mode
Eoip tunnel across ax2 bridge and ax3 bridge.

There is a post from, I think, Buckeye laying out all the details.

It's an old thing.
There is even a MUM presentation on it.

Not really the intended purpose, but could be a solution for what you want.
