Question about RB5009 rack options

Fri Jun 02, 2023 3:48 pm

Good morning:
I am currently using a RB5009 with the rack in a cabinet, I know it is possible to accommodate up to 4 of these routers together, but my question is, since I only need one router, is there a switch model that Miktotik makes to use instead?.

Thanks with any help

Do you mean switch and router all in one?

Answer is yes and no. The CRS3xx and 5xx range have L3 hardware routing but that's mainly for VLANs.

As for a router and firewall then there's no suitable device really as the CPUs in the switches are too weak.

Go through the product pages on Mikrotik.com and look at the test results for yourself and you'll see.

The rack mount kit for the RB5009 allows you to rack as few as one of these.

Thanks for your answer, but I'm, talking about to use one RB5009 and another switch, that can fit in the same bracket.

maybe you can consider this model

L009UiGS-RM

https://mikrotik.com/product/l009uigs_rm

be aware!!
Despite its physical resemblance, it is a very different device from the 5009, but form factor can be useful for your setup

Thanks for the idea. It would be possible to use it without the router functionality. But it would be interesting if it was just a network switch

You can use the half from the RMK-2/10 kit and the half from the RB5009/L009 rackmount kit K-79. With a little bit of modification. Then you can use any 200mm form factor switch
