CSS326-24G-2S+ Switch Loss on SFP+ active

Tue Jun 13, 2023 8:04 am

Hi,
I have the problem where when I bring up either one of the SFP+ links, I loose comms to the rest of the switch (accessing via Port1).
I am trying to link the CSS326-24G-2S+ to a CSS610-8G-2S+
I don't seem to have any problems with the 610 (running SwOS Lite 2.14) only the 326 (running SwOS 2.13).

Having just the SFP+s installed there is no issue, and the device reads all stats perfectly to match the SFP+.
It just crashes and refuses to pass traffic when the port comes up all the below scenarios cause the switch to loose comms and stop traffic on the copper ports.
I have tried both SFP+ ports 1&2 to the following
- linked to SFP+ port/s on CSS610-8G-2S+
- linked to 10Gbps Ethernet Tester
- linked to 10G NIC on server.
- linked to 10G trunk port from router
- linked back to back SFP+1 to SFP+2 (I isolated the ports to prevent a loop)
but to no avail.

Anybody have any ideas what may be wrong?
Cheers
Tim

What SFP module are you using?

Hi k6ccc,
I have tried many different brands. Using Optical, I've tried mm and sm.
Brands: Source, FS, Cisco, Mikrotik, PlusOptic, Ciena, Pro-Lab. (I work for a telco so I can get hold of anything to try).
Most of the above work in the cheaper 610 switch fine.
The 326 switch registers all the details down to the serial number of the sfp+s so it doesn't seem to be getting upset with the physical sfp+ itself just when the link comes up. (the led "Active" and "10G" light illuminate but connectivity and traffic to the switch dies until fibre unpplugged again).
I have since noticed GigE SFPs work. But that pointless when I want 10G in what is suppose to be a SFP+ port.
Cheers

Have you tried to disable flow control on the ports?

Hi biomass. I have tried all 16 combinations.
ie
326 TX ONLY: with 610 TX only, RX only, BOTH, Disabled.
326 RX only: with 610 ^^^^
326 Off: with 610 ^^^^
326 Both with 610 ^^^^

I'm at a lost, surely it's a configuration or a bug in software as they work with 1Ge SFPs but although reading the SFP+s details ok, crash comms when link comes up.
I did want to try going back to 2.12 or even earlier but I noticed you can't get archive versions of swOS which is silly.

Anyone got any other ideas or should I RMA the switch?

Thanks for all your help.
