dual-band wifi adapters for Mikrotik

Wed Jul 26, 2023 11:56 am

Tell me, what dual-band wifi adapters does Mikrotik Ros support, except for the brand's boards?

At first thought I would say: none.
Legacy wireless package is completely proprietary, wifiwave2 package is based on standard driver from supplier but still tailored to ROS/RB application.

So you may want to give a bit more context as to where you are heading with this question...

Well, at least wifi 2.4 MHz, what module can be installed other than the native Mikrotik ones?

Atheros AR5B95 ?

And which one is modern?

OK, but why ? What do you think can be done more ?

I still think it is not possible.
Maybe best to ask directly to support, they can answer with certainty.

As far as I can find back, there is no info available for wifi other then using MT's own cards/boards.

I have done this in the past and it worked, at the time used mostly Atheros TP Link cards on small x86 industrial computers. It just doesn't make sense though anymore, dedicated equipment is much more power efficient.

This seems to be an older page now.

Thanks, but that's not quite it. I need to put a pci-e wifi adapter in the RBM33G, not a wifi module in a Microtik based on an X86 PC. I know for sure that Atheros, whose model I wrote above, works. I would like to know what modern models of wifi modules Microtik supports. It is unlikely that they will answer me in official support, since they are interested in selling their modules. The experience of users who have already done this is more interesting.

For example, it is known on which chips Microtik mini pci-e wifi modules are made:

https://mikrotik.com/product/R11e-5HnD - AR9580
https://mikrotik.com/product/R11e-2HPnD - AR9582
https://mikrotik.com/product/R11e-2HnD - AR9582
https://mikrotik.com/product/R11e-5HacD - QCA9882

Will a wifi module from another manufacturer be supported on the same chipsets? Especially interesting is the support of dual-band modules such as

Again, why ?
What do you think you can do more when using a card with same chipset from another manufacturer ?

Your link points to a card using QCA9882.
What do you think you can do more then using the tested and supported R11e-5HacD ?

Firstly, it's about the price. And secondly, I am interested in a card that supports both 2.4 and 5 ranges by choice. Microtik doesn't seem to have one.
