/wifi (wifiwave2) has inferior AP data

Sat Dec 09, 2023 2:51 am

/interface/wifi (wifiwave2) commands (and API data returned) are missing important data to evaluate APs that /interface/wireless has. :(
Are there plans to add some of this information to /wifi?

With /wireless I could just run /wireless/monitor to get signal strength, snr, hertz/channel size, 802.11 standard (e.g. 802.11ac), tx-rate (also p-throughput, ccq), and more.

With /wifi, I have to run multiple commands (API calls) to retrieve that data: /scan (hertz/channel size), frequency-scan (noise floor to then calculate snr), /registration-table (signal strength, tx-rate [no p-throughput, ccq]). Those calls take wall clock time.

Yes, wifi drivers lack lots of monitoring data. This was a trend even with legacy wireless driver beginning with ac radio chipsets. And it's getting worse without prospect of getting better.

You may want to open a ticket with support (use e-mail / support portal). And keep us posted with any replies you might get.
