Ethernet AP with DHCP disable don't give mikrotik IP

Sun Jan 14, 2024 4:52 pm

Hello,

Not sure if I need to post my problem here or on D-LINK forum.. Anyway
I've Mikrotik RB951UI (wifi disable - IP range = 192.168.88.0/24) and a D-LINK DAP-1360 connected via ethernet 4 with wifi enable (default IP range = 192.168.10.0/24)
I've disabled DHCP on D-LINK but when I connect to wifi via my smartphone, sometime it give 192.168.88.xx IP (internet works) and sometimes 192.168.10.XX IP (internet doesn't works)

I really don't understand where this is coming from, if you have any ideas...

Regards,

You may have better luck asking this on the D-Link's forum/support/whatever.
Based on your description, I'd say that the "rogue" IP most likely comes from your D-Link.

I remove D-LINK and enable wireless on my mikrotik, but have same problem. Sometimes it give 192.168.10.x IP to client, and I don't know why.... Is it cache lease on wireless client ?

IP pool :
add name=default-dhcp ranges=192.168.88.10-192.168.88.9
don't include 192.168.10
With /export I can't find any configuration about 192.168.10

If someone have an idea

Possibly silly question, but - by any chance - is the smartphone an Apple device?

There is a similar report about netgear:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-W ... -p/2316867

and if you google a bit for
"192.168.1.x wrong ip" or similar you will find a number of reports about similar issues connected to Apple devices (it could still be just a coincidence, as Apple phones/tablets are very common).

Could it be that some (Apple) devices have a mechanism similar to the old APIPA 169.254.x.x addresses in Windows? A sort of "default" that is used when a DHCP address is not received correctly?

Is your IP range really from 192.168.88.10 to 192.168.88.9 or you forgot to add other numbers ?

I forgot that I had another access point connected via ethernet. It conflicted with the mikrotik's DHCP.

I unplugged it, and now the D-LINK is sending back to the mikrotik's DHCP.

I'll wait to receive the hAP ax3, and redo a complete configuration by removing all my access points.

Sorry for the oversight, and thanks for your feedback :)
