wlan60-1 (W60G) packet sniffing

Mon Mar 04, 2024 5:35 pm

Hello, I am recently working on 802.11ay-related research.

I have two Mikrotik devices: Cube 60Pro ac and CubeSA 60Pro ac.

I am trying to capture some beacon frames and beamforming frames by setting the 802.11ay WLAN card to a sniff mode (I believe this is similar to the monitor mode).
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:I ... 0G#Monitor

I followed the instructions here:

Sniff
Sniff mode allows to capture nearby 802.11ad frames. To use sniff mode same frequency needs to be used and interface operational mode needs to be set to sniff:

/interface w60g set wlan60-1 mode=sniff
Now this interface can be used in Tools/Packet Sniffer for packet capture. Sniffer mode can't be used together with regular interface working modes.

Since there is another 802.11ay device working around the one of two devices where I am sniffing the frame, I thought I would be able to capture any frames.
But unfortunately, the saved file does not contain any frame and seems empty.

is there anyone who succeeded in capturing 802.11ay (60GHz) frames?

Thanks!
