Ethernet-connected devices keep disconnecting and reconnecting

Wed Mar 27, 2024 6:00 pm

My RB5009 logs have started to get filled with "disconnected, connection lost" followed by "connected, signal strength -XX" wrt MikroTik cAP ax access points that are connected via ethernet to the router. My desktop connection also produces error messages "ether5 link down" followed by "ether5 link up (speed 1G, full duplex)", but less often (I'm monitoring a possible trend where the flapping happens mostly in the morning, oddly, for the desktop link.

I find it unlikely that all of my ethernet connections are bad, though all of them run through cables that have been installed during the construction of the entire building.

What could be causing the on/off behavior? What'd be the next step in the troubleshooting process? I have the latest firmware and packages installed (7.15beta8) on the router and all three APs. I've also been using pi-hole DNS, but switched it back to 1.1.1.1 to rule it out.

Config attached. Thanks for any hints & help I can get.

Re: Ethernet-connected devices keep disconnecting and reconnecting

I am experiencing this too, see attached log image.

My wifi clients keep disconnecting/reconnecting under load.

New L009UiGS-2HaxD using a slightly modified default config.
My software is up to date I think

I don't remember this happening until a few weeks ago. Maybe it was and I just didn't notice, however my GF complained her laptop was disconnecting/reconnecting and I didn't really take her seriously until I tried it myself and saw the same behavior. This instability might be the result of a patch?

These devices aren't roaming, they are sitting still in the same room as the router.

Re: Ethernet-connected devices keep disconnecting and reconnecting

This might be a windows 11 only issue. I haven't replicated the problem with my Linux clients yet.

I went to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit a power plan
and changed the PCI Express > Link State Power Management power savings modes off and haven't seen the issue resurface yet.

@0xAA55

I doubt it's a Windows 11 issue because why would all of my 3 APs keep disconnecting as well? They're all connected to the router via ethernet cables.

I also noticed the disconnect issue with my Macbook Pro, which connects wirelessly to the wifi.

I also don't remember having this issue say 6 months ago, but then again I don't think I've looked at the logs since I unwrapped the devices. My best estimate for when the issues begun is 1 month ago.

Here's a snapshot of my log:

@Ipns

Yeah after reading your post again I figured while the log messages being displayed are the same I think the underlying issue is different. I was having trouble with wireless windows clients going into power saving mode and that disconnected them. You seem to be having an issue with Ethernet connected internet access points disconnecting from the main router.

While I think these issues are not related, I am cross-posting a new thread: viewtopic.php?p=1071552#p1071552 with more info about my issue in case anyone in the future stumbles in here and wants to know.

Also necro-bumping your thread in the hope you find a solution to your issue @Ipns!
