Purchasing on Amazon

Thu Mar 28, 2024 4:05 am

I'm a US integrator and I have accounts with multiple US distributors. I've been buying Mikrotik from them. In the past, the pricing was comparable with Amazon - except for shipping. Now, it seems whoever is selling through Amazon is actually cheaper than the "approved" US distributors - plus the free Prime shipping.

I have no idea who is behind the Mikrotik "store" on Amazon. Is this an approved channel to purchase the product?

You can usually find who is the actual seller in amazon marketplace. Then check if they are a real distributor listed in mikrotik.com/buy

We have seen some amazon marketplace sellers that do not offer warranty and service or support of any kind. Be careful.

The most recent MT item I bought through Amazon came from Getic, one of MT’s primary distributors, possibly even #1.

As always, check your sources. 🧐

Getic does a poor job with product descriptions…. Check the link to see how they describe the RB5009

I like buying from Amazon Canada because returns are absolutely hassle free and returns are free shipping.

Tru Dat but ISP supplies ( forget former name) in Ottawa ( Gloucester ) is selling the same RB5009 router for $287 Cdn + taxes + shipping.
Lets compare

llama (isp supplies)
287.87+18.77+15% = $352.64

llama (amazon)
323.69+15% = $372.24

Mozerd ( isp supplies, pick up at store )
287.87 + 13% = $325.30

Maybe I should get you to buy all my products and then figure out how to get them to NS LOL.
Truth be told, what would really whet my whistle is a 2116.............. For what, no reason, just to make up for the small......... network I have!

The 2116 is a beauty, with plenty of resources for homelabbing.

I take donations from Utes :-)) ( yes I noted the recent gymastics victory and the departure of the women from the Sweet 16).
Even better is if you have some exra land in Sedona........... That locale, blew me away.......

Anav where did you get the 15% from? It’s 13%
323.69 x 13% = 365.77

😀

It's the "Get it by Tomorrow" [even Sat/Sun] that's useful about Amazon IMO. In general, if you're ordering a few units, the total cost likely be lower without Amazon - or at least that's what I've found. And Amazon often limits purchase to only one or two units is the 2nd problem (or they change the shipping date if quantity is higher).

For Prime, I know Amazon charges vendors to store unsold items based on time+weight+size... so if they ain't popular or big they ain't going to be on Amazon... that's what I've seen.

Anav where did you get the 15% from?

Seems that VAT rate for fire-breathing donkeys is higher in NS ?

So ?
I always get my product descriptions from the original manufacturer.
And then I order through Getic (or dectdirect.be).

Or are descriptions different in Europe ?

BTW RB5009 bought in Europe, directly from Getic. At current exchange rate that's 175 USD ?
But it still needs to be shipped.
