Problem with Chateau Pro AX

Mon Jun 09, 2025 3:08 pm

I'm having a problem with the new Chateau Pro AX, specifically with the 2.4GHz interface. After several days of troubleshooting, I eventually went back to basics and, abandoning Capsman, manually configured the following network on the 2.4GHz interface:
set [ find default-name=wifi2 ] channel.width=20mhz configuration.antenna-gain=5 .country=Poland .manager=local .mode=ap .ssid=IoT datapath.vlan-id=440 disabled=no mtu=1500 security.authentication-types=wpa2-psk .encryption=ccmp
According to Mikrotik, the interface is working – tx-power is set to 15, and clients are connecting to it. However, the problem is that they keep disconnecting frequently, usually with the following message:
28:37:2F:8B:60:88@wifi2(IoT) disconnected, not responding, signal strength -48
That would be understandable if the client had a weak wireless adapter. But the same client maintains a stable connection with other access points, both with the old wireless setup and the new hAP AX (there are several APs in the house due to its layout). Additionally, in NetSpot, the Wi-Fi network appears briefly and then disappears.

I’ve tried connecting various devices – same result, as if the network is vanishing intermittently (even though the Chateau Pro AX doesn’t report any issues).

Do you have any idea what is going on? Just to be clear – this is the exact same configuration that's being distributed by CAPsMAN to the other access points (two NetMetals AX/AC outside the house, a hAP ax on the ground floor, and a hAP ac on the upper floor) – and everything works fine everywhere else. The issue occurs only here.

Try the nightly on the AP:

https://mt.lv/nightly-build
Caution, this is pre-release that most likely contains other bugs. I can't guarantee that with this version something will not burst into flames or something. https://mt.lv/nightly-build DO NOT INSTALL THIS if you use it for something important.

I am still testing with ccmp/wpa2/wpa3 FT steering and connection-priority=0/1
My findings so far.

Old stuff does the headless chicken dance.
In other words, this sequence was an older 2.4g only phone arriving then stomping between the 2 choices it has.
2.4g upstairs Cap-2 or wifi2 2.4g downstairs. I had to add it to the Cap-2 reject list!
I am not 100% sure how a wifi call would survive that.

Well behaved AC device 2.4g/5g Which shows the FT flag
In this sequence the device arrives connecting to the 2.4g then moving to the 5g, 20 mins later same again
after going out to collect food from the deliveroo driver.

This has a choice of 2x 2.4g and 1x 5g

In this sequence AX device leaves the building from Cap-1 5g then rejoins back back on Cap1 5g

Hi itimo01, is there any problem with downloading nightly for windows 11? Are there any data conflicts?
