The Dude v3.0 - New map style looks terrible

Tue Dec 09, 2008 8:20 pm

I decided to update to my Dude from v2.2 to v3.0 (mainly due to the decreased network traffic).
I did not test any of the v3.0rc's and this was my 1st look.

Everything updates fine, my custom probes/graphics/mibs all worked fine after the update...

However, the new map style looks absolutely terrible. I can't seem to find the outline function anywhere, and without it I feel The Dude went from a polished fine tuned looking product, to some cheap simple looking product. Now I know all the functionality is there but I am really hoping that either the outline function was moved and just off or that it is planned to be added back in.

Can anyone comment on this, like I said maybe its just off and the option to enable has been moved.

Cheers

I'm sorry that you miss the outlines, but there were certain technological reasons why it had to be removed. We will treat this as a request, and will see what we can do.

However, you can still turn off the gradients, turn on the anti-aliasing and change color:

MyThoughts, absolutely agree with you, it looks terrible, like a sheets of papers on the desk.

IMHO, there should be shadows at least. And also waiting for outlines or some kind of border :D

Hi Normis!
We still wait for outlines.
Actually we couldn't pass 2.2 because of the need of outlines.
Since we manage more than 2 thousands of devices its very hard to keep it working with such an old stuff.
I think now - as you put human resources into the dude development - its not a problem to reeanble this feature.
Its not a technical need but an ergonomical. Much easier to analize maps, object for a human if its outlined.
(Like its much easier to analize if you use horizontal and vertical lines only)
You can easy test it, and will see. I beleive thet many of the users say its good now, but most of them would say: endles, we waited this for so long.
Thx.

Hi Normis!
Any news about this?
We still stucked at Dude 2.2 because of its map style.
Its getting harder to maintain it nowadays.
Please look after the posiibilities of adding shadows and outlines again to map style properties!

Regards,
Peter
