RouterOS5.15 and above don't support VAP on Level3 anymore

I've got several SXTs which come with a Level 3 license.

Now I want to connect two devices to the wireless interface by using virtual ap.

This feature worked all the time for me, until RouterOS 5.15 appeared.

[admin@SXT] /interface wireless> add name=wlan2 master-interface=wlan1
failure: license level does not allow virtual AP

Mikrotik please solve this issue.

This was bug. Mikrotik fixed it in 5.15

Any kind of AP, including VirtualAP, needs L4 license. Due to a bug, like Honzam said, you could use it with L3 in some versions. This bug was fixed.

The license overview does NOT state,
that VAPs are disallowed with License level 3.
Please make that clear!
Until today I thought, that the feature 'Wireless AP' was
selectable by using 'ap-bridge' instead of 'bridge'.
'Virtual-AP' worked in any version until 5.15 for me.
So this is very sad that I am forced to spend 45$ for using VAP on these devices if I want to go higher than ROS 5.14.

Also I couldn't find any occurance in the changelogs stating this 'issue'.

So what happens to my SXT level 3 with ROS 5.14 if I upgrade it to ROS5.18?

You found a way around Mikrotik's intended way of operating and licensing and you're blaming them for fixing it?

Yes. They changed a behaviour without ANY notice.
Furthermore, from the table of the license levels, it is NOT clear, that VAP isn't allowed with license level 3!

So I spent nearly two hours to find out, this 'issue' had been 'fixed'.

So VAP is not possbile anymore with level 3.
Can I purchase SXTs with Level4 license already included?

From the license policy:

Level 3
Wireless AP :: " - "

Level4
Wireless AP :: "Yes"

I am sorry that this confused you. We will try to improve the wording.

Yeah, I know this license table.

Anyhow:
Can I purchase SXTs with Level4 license already included?
(I don't want to purchase a level 4 license separately)

Sorry, but we do not offer SXT with L4 license.
SXT is a device with a narrow beamwidth antenna, in practice, it is hard to connect multiple devices to one SXT.

For an AP setup, I recomment OmniTIK instead.

Just to clarify can i purchase a L4 licence for SXT as i have some attached to a grid dish for PTP link?

Yes, you can purchase Level4/5/6 for SXT or any other device.

The beamwidth of the SXT is very well suited to supply several customers in a row.
There are abosutely NO issues about beamwidth.

Like I wrote earlier in other threads:
The OmniTik isn't suited for a general AP setup.
The lower antenna gain and its 360° sensitivity for high frequency garbage makes it being not the preferred device for every case.

Would you consider to offer a Level4 SXT in the future?

It's not necessary to sell different products that only have difference in software. Mikrotik should simply offer discounts for license upgrades.. I would have upgraded few L3's in past, but since L4 license costs as much as whole unit, it doesn't make sense to overpay for it :)

I had a few confrontations with the dummy "no AP-bridge il L3" limitation in the past, but resolved them with the virtual ap function.
Now after failure to set a home WiFi network for a client with SXTsq 2 lite and several hours lost, i will migrate to Ubiquiti entirely.
45$ license fee for a 39$ device is a no-go for me.
Another Mikrotik will collect dust...
May be i will try them again if they remove the notorious License level 3 for good...

As explained above, this is not the fault of licensing, but the issue that you purchased the wrong device. We have many devices with AP and VAP functionality out of the box.
Nobody is asking to purchase a 45USD license, in fact, I advise against it. Just use the right tool from the start.
