v6 RC2 released

Wed Oct 24, 2012 7:23 pm

All kinds of small fixes, plus this:
What's new in 6.0rc2 (2012-Oct-24 11:27):

*) added generic fast path support on certain interfaces
(all ethernets on RB3xx, RB6xx, RB7xx, RB8xx, RB9xx, RB1000, RB11xx, RB2011);
*) added ipv4 fast path, it doubles ipv4 forwarding performance
on supported interfaces when no firewall, conntrack, queues.
*) added traffic generator fast path;
*) addedbridge fast path;
More info on fast path: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Fast_Path
We need all the reports about this version, please if you find any issues - let us know. We are almost ready with v6, and your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is there a newer version of Winbox that works with RC2? The current version seems to lock up "Crossover" where v5.21 worked fine just a minute ago. Heads up.. :-) :-)

When one says, "No firewall rules" that means any and all configurations that fall under that right?

So no fast path with Mangle and Marking, or if there is an QoS/Queueing?

I'm not meaning to give a hard time. I'm just meaning to get clarification :)

Thank you Normis and Mikrotik team.

After Rebuilding "Crossover", Winbox seems to run nominally. Good to go.. :)

FastPath wont work with connection tracking.

So anything that needs conntrack (firewall, mangle, etc.) will "disable" FastPath if you have conntrack in the new Auto mode.

Cool cool....that makes sense. So basically if there's anything that uses DPI then FastPath (or Fast-Switching as Cisco called it) is disabled. Is this global or per interface?

So say one interface has Mangle rules attached, and another one has nothing other than just normal forwarding then........is it enabled on the bare interface and disabled on the DPI interface?

As I've mentioned since the last 3 releases of v6.

Is there a fix yet, for upgrading from a Mikrotik that has simple queues? It makes absolutely no sense to upgrade a Mikrotik with 400 Simple Queues, and have it LOSE all the IP addresses for each queue. Not cool..

Normis, you have written that v6 RC2 contains no GUI-errors on the User Manager. That is not true.
I show it

1. So i add new user "bab01". See pict 1

2. The user "bab01" logged in by hotspot and used the session.
Then i add with "batch" button six new users. Now see "users" table - some informations for user "bab01" are missing. See pict 2

3. Then i logged in and logged out by user manager. What does user manager now show? Here see that. See pict 3

4. Now the user "ab6j7" log in and we look the "users" table of user manager. See pict 4

1. No we look the user "ab6j7" in detail - something is missing. See pict 1
2. That is view of "sessions" table as soon as the user "bab01" logged in. See pict 2
3. View of "sessions" table after logged the user "ab6j7" und the user "bab02". Here there are no informations about users "ab6j7" and "bab02" See pict 3.
4. View of "users" table as result. See pict 4

i could't upload the file, received this message "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached"

Have you tested latency on your links. In my tests new versions of NV2 traded disconnects for extremely high latencies and lower bandwidth. I much prefer 1 sec disconnects over 3000ms delays.

I hope that is allowed to post here suggestions, because i have one. In previous Mikrotik OS versions was implemented IP address list (and then we can use this IP address lists in our firewall rules as src or dst address lists). That's very useful feature of Mikrotik OS. But, I think that a lot of us has something need to use something like MAC address list, for example to mark all trafic which comes from some MAC addressES. Is that possible to implement that feature in Mikrotik? it's hard job to make especially firewall rulles for all MAC address.

Fast Path is disabled when you add any firewall rule.
Ok, so then Fast Path is disabled globally on all interfaces if even one of those rules are broken for one of the interfaces?

I have tested in RB SXT , wireless works well but the Cpu goes at 100% , after downgraded 5.21 the problem is resolved. Also in RB 751U in queues the tx is not shown , global out not exist , high cpu usage , after downgraded problems are resolved

could you be more detailed on your problem with bad latency and low speed? did it get worse when you upgraded to 6.0rc2, if yes, from which version where it was ok?

On v6rc2 I'm having issues when making changes to queue tree entries via Winbox.

First, I am unable to change the name of any queue tree entries. I always get an error of "Couldn't change queue <queue-name-here>, already have such name" even if there is only one item in the queue tree list and it has a completely unique name.

Second, making any change to the parent of a root queue tree item causes the entry to be flagged as invalid followed by the router crashing and needing to be power cycled.

This happens on both an RB750GL and an RB2011L.

I've upgraded 5 different routers, all different ranging from RB433, RB493, and RB1100AH.

It's simple. If the router has say 400 simple queues on it, after the upgrade to 6.X, all simple queues IP address change to 0.0.0.0/0. A downgrade back, luckily, saves the IP addresses.

Am I really the only one???

I see no problem with latency, but a little less bandwidth. (little significant).

I had an DHCP issue with v6 RC1:
When the client is registered and then I make lease as static. If then change IP of the static entry the client does not change the IP. I have tried up/down interface on the client, plug/unplug the connector and so on but the client was stick to the IP it got initially.

After upgrading to RC2 issue is solved.

I am not sure have you been aware of it or not, since I haven't seen any release log entry related to DHCP server.

Thank you for the great product.

Wispwest - We checked with v5.18, v5.20 and v5.21 upgrade to v6.0rc2 with 400 and 1000 queues. We did not see any problems. Even v5.xx backups could be successfully restored in v6, even though console has now "target" instead of "target-address" . Downgrade also worked fine in all cases.

Please tell us more about your setup. Did you use any pre-release versions or only versions from our webpage?

Yes, disconnect problems before 5.21
Latency slightly smaller (5%) before 5.21
Bandwidth was slightly higher (10%) before 5.21

But still I'm very happy with 5.21 (6.0rc2 has several bugs, but not related to NV2)

On RB-750 some truble with interfaces. I upgraded from 5.x to 6rc2, just after upgrade/reboot everything seems working. But then I unplug my notebook, come to work, return back to home, plug notebook to rb-750, boot notebook, link is not setting up, I try to plug/unplug cable, plug it in other ports on rb-750 - link is not setting up. I reboot rb-750 and after reboot it again become working.

On x86 I cannot install it [Ticket#2012102966000371] - I see package choose dialog, but can do nothing - keyboard seems to not working. I think either keyboard driver not working or it fall in dead loop. I tried to use Netinstall, but on display I see message that there are not some drivers - Netinstall working only for RouterBoard or for x86 should work too?

I have several performance issues on 6.0rc2. Tested with RB951-2n and RB1100AH.

With 25Mbit/s of traffic on ethernet interfaces I see the RX DROPS increasing between 2 and 5 packets each second, constantly.

This happens on all interfaces, without any particular settings, only ip routing.

I'm sending the supout.rif.

when will mikrotik support the hardware with memory bigger than 2GB ?
or perhaps you can make mikrotik will support unlimited memory ?

6rc2 queues sometimes need disable/enable to make 'em work after tweaking them/after tweaking some small parameter of the queue tree

a rb133 disappeared after 6rc3 dev was uploaded to it (was wlan nv2 connection back to us)

bridges with vrrps wlan eth and stuff sometimes did not respond to remove command. after disabling packages mpls ppp dhcp hotspot ipv6 then I was able to remove the bridge

v5.21 stable - if queues have small size for example 3 - they drop some packets. - oh-oohhh ? the queue can't handle the packets that came in even though they are with a low rate - lower than the max-limit. lower than 10mbps. Works fine? with slightly higher queue size.

RouterOS x86 is sufficient as 32 bit and it has been stated in the MUMs that there are no plans for x64 version for x86_64.

I am satisfied with the 32 bit version. Why would you need a different one ? Thanks.

Thank you for the advise, but I'm not sure how to do that? I have tried to "renew lease" on the client machine (as well as mobile device) and tried to unplug and plug cable as well as up/down interface

But, as I said, everything is fine in v6 RC2

Will there be an x86_64 version?
unfortunately, no. not now
I am satisfied with the 32 bit version. Why would you need a different one ? Thanks.
for bigger available RAM? :)

also, won't 64 instructions help to manage ipv6 addresses a bit faster? %)

is nv2 supported in x86 in ros. v6?
What about dual-nstreme on v6, is supported and works? works only for A cards or also on N cards?
WHere can I download ros v 6 rc3?(I have enabled account on mikrotik.com to download prerelease version, but cant see it in download section.)

To also piggy back onto what Chupaka said. Having 64 bit on x86 ROS would be helpful if the box was being used as a route reflector. IPv4 + IPv6 + VPNv4 + VPNv6 = a LOT of RAM used. This would ACTUALLY make the most sense on x86 because those would be the best boxes to use as RRs due to the fact that a powerful processor and a lot of RAM can be fitted onto an x86 box.

So therefore, really, it makes LESS sense to have the Routerboards to have 64 bit ROS, and it would make MORE sense to add that to x86 purely because of the CPU power available.

I would even argue that a 2 socket, or 4 socket Intel or AMD server board would have more power than the CCR as the x86 chips probably do more work than the 36 core monster.

Perhaps this the reason for no 64bit x86. Need to sell more CCR! :)

Probably most of work and testing would be related to 32->64 migration of routeros kernel modules, and it would be done anyway for CCR. Linux drivers have already been tested in 64 bit mode.

I've heard that x86_64 code is a bit faster. More processor registers are available, for example.

If compared fedora 32bit pure routing (no iptables) vs fedora 64 bit which will pass more packets per second while retaining minimal processing delay?

I am updated my RB751G-2HnD from 5.21 to 6.0rc2. In USB port inserted LTE modem Samsung LU156 (YOTA, Russia). After upgrade CPU usage was 100% on 10 seconds, and then all ethernet ports failed to any response, winbox are closed. connect to router MAC-addresses not work, ping to router is also missing. If router starts without LTE modem router works fine.

it is whole new architecture for nothing, because we cannot drop x86 32bit, since a lot of users are using different intergated solutions based on x86 that have not heard anything about 64bit.

Bugs:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=66803 also for x86
Another bug is when you restore a backup from other RB. After every reboot, that backup, will be restored even if I deleted it. 3 times. Back to 5.21.

I have problem with bandwitch test in v6 rc3:
rb750(v6 rc3) -ethernet cable - rb711(v5.21)--wifi--nv2---rb433ah

When I do the bt test from rb750 to rb711, tcp speed one way is 70mbit/s(o.k).
http://i47.tinypic.com/18nnl0.jpg
When I do btest from rb750 to rb433ah, over nv2 traffice from some kbits to 100mbit/s....and then freezes...
http://i49.tinypic.com/2vs3yae.jpg

This is normal test over nv2 from rb711 to rb433ah:
http://i48.tinypic.com/2ekjaf6.jpg

So this is BUG.

make it both version. i386 and amd64. Will there be any performance benefits? support for new cpu instructions? Do you think it will be good?

What's new in 6.0rc3 (2012-Oct-30 13:06):

*) added "/ip settings" menu with following settings:
ip-forward, send-redirects, accept-source-route, accept-redirects,
secure-redirects, rp-filter, tcp-syncookies;

Can explain more details about these IP settings?

and why not expose what is new or fixed in every new release like the new rc3 october 31?

RC2 don´t have all network nic drivers. I upgrade 5.14 to 6 RC2. And one interface has not detected, i reset the configuration, and nothing. In System->Resources->PCI i see two interfaces, but in /interface have only one. So, i back to 5.21. :(
My box is a x86 and this
 0 03:02.0 Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev: 16) 5

I don't know if anybody saw this but since 6.0rc1 my internal firewall is misbehaving with masquerade.
It has several IP addresses, because I have some fixed NAT's, but it would always pick the first (main) address (ordered 0 on /ip address print). Since rc1 (now tested with rc2) it keeps selecting the lowest number (not the lowest index) until I disable and re-enable the other addresses on the interface.

no, please do not rely on this "working" because it is not a feature at all. it just uses first added address of interface

use isntedad of masquerade actioon=src-nat and put in the IP that you want

how can I downgrade my RB1200 from RouterOS 6.0rc2 to RouterOS 5.21?

When I load all needed packages of ROS 5.21 to files and do:
sys packages downgrade
the only thing that happenes is a reboot.

After the reboot I still see version 6.0rc2 running!

The firmware is 2.38.

v6 rc3 from october 6. after login to winbox, sq shows big numbers in SQ....after a few secs...is ok.
It slow reacts to changes according to interface speed(it was better in old SQ).
 1 ;;; server
      name="LN" target=10.13.58.0/24 dst=10.10.10.10/32 parent=none

In this rule when somebody is downloading from 10.10.10.10 - rule 1, it doesnt catch it(or one time yes, one time not...)

Also I upgraded one rb750, from 5,18 to v6 rc3. upgrade of ros ok. Then i upgraded bootloader from 2,39 to 3 and mikrotik doesnt start. Ale lights are turned on. I tryed to get inside using netinstall, but when I connect it to pc, in my pc it shows that nothing is connecte(I tryed two working pcs).
What to do now with rb?
