Prevent accidental deletion.

Tue Jan 29, 2013 12:32 pm

Hi why there is no feature like that in Mikrotik? Just right click whatever, press 'Prevent accidental deletion' and then if you click by mistake on '-' you don't screw the whole network.

the feature is called "Safe Mode". Use that button more often

Safe mode it's not what I am asking for. As far I concern 'Safe mode' is preventing from deleting anything. I want to only mark 1 or 2 things and have free will about the rest.

BTW: Safemode button? Where is this in Winbox?

You want Windows approach, to ask every time "Are you sure you want to do this? Yes/No/Cancel"

No I don't want windows yes/no...

You mark one thing with PAD, that think I don't know goes 'orange' or whatever ... and then when select it and press "-" or press "-" on webUI the option just stays there, nothing happens.

Edit: So to delete you need to first right click, deselect PAD and then delete it.

Found SafeMode button in winbox :D Was never looking up tbh.

Accidental deletion can be undone with the "Undo" button in Winbox, or Undo command in console.
If you want to be protected against connection loss, use Safe Mode in addition to Undo command.

OK, here is the example.

1. Log in to Winbox.
2. Go to Bridge.
3. Accidentally delete bridge.
4. Winbox will log you out straightaway.
5. If you are within the same network, you can login using MAC and press undo, otherwise take a helicopter and fly to the mountain 800m above the sea level.
6. Lets say u are on the same network, so you are able to get into that routerboard on MAC, you press Undo.
7. Bridge pops in.
7a. When I tried that, Mikrotik behaved very weirdly, I couldn't access most of things. Restarted winbox, and could not see that mikkrotik under 'browse', waited 5 mins and repowered this routerboard to finally get in (flying again?)
8. When I got in, Bridge was there, Ports were designated, however DHCP under bridge was RED.

Still think I ask for "undo" button?

for the described situation, Safe Mode will save you.

1. Log in to Winbox and ENABLE SAFE MODE
2. Go to Bridge.
3. Accidentally delete bridge.
4. Winbox will log you out straightaway
5. Safe mode detects missing connection, does "UNDO" command automatically
6. Winbox connection restored.

This is what happens.

1. Logging in to Winbox.
2. Pressing "safe mode"
3. Accidentally deleting "bridge1"
4. Logs me out.
5. RouterOS loses IP address... so winbox shows 0.0.0.0
6. I take the helicopter :P

Never mind ... I see u take my feature request to be unnecessary, so let it be.

Ixo that is not correct. Please try yourself. After winbox loses connection, wait some 10-20 seconds and everything will be automatically restored!

We can also make something like this -

1. click any rule or item
2. click "lock" icon
3. removing of rule now impossible, shows "item locked"
4. click "unlock" to modify this item

Is anybody else interested in such functionality?

That would be great. I accidentally removed a VPN link and it took 30 minutes to get all red fw mangle, nat, dhcp and so on back . Thought I pressed comment but hit remove

IMHO, if this 'lock' will also prevent accidental rule move and rule change, it will be nice and useful feature.

What about an option for a system lock and or indervidual interfaces such as Virtual AP, WDS interface, VLAN, firewall rule, ip address, route etc etc etc?

why don't you all use Undo button after you delete something?

That's not entirely my thought for it. I want to lock the rules so others know not to touch them and can't accidentally remove them.

So in these situations undo won't work. The way I work around this now is a very good backup system.

That would be perfect!

What I usually miss is the ability to absolutely lock interfaces from being disabled (typical error disabling the interface you are connected through), deleted (in case of bridge, vlan, tunnelings) or reconfigured.

Well... and could it be possible not to have the "Reset Configuration" available via GUI?

you can't prevent other rules from being moved in front of this rule, causing it to be moved down/up

Thank you very much!
You saved me hours with command.
btw: I couldn't find this command in Winbox but just in the Terminal window.
