MAC based connectivity without PPPoE dialing?!

Thu May 22, 2014 7:58 am

I need to connect users without using PPPoE dialer and just use their MAC addresses for authentication. However the users need to be using different bandwidth packages/profiles, like the ones you can setup in User Manager.

I'm kind of confused on how to make this work. I'm guessing a DHCP server will work with the User Manager? Can anyone please just give me a direction to head or some ideas on how to achieve this?

Thanks in advance... fingers crossed. :)

Are you looking for a controlled environment that works with a Layer 2 network, MAC Auth and bandwidth control?

Then you are looking at a hotspot function coupled with UserManager. This will give you the DHCP control and RADIUS authentication that controls users as you are looking for.

Yes. That's exactly what I need. Thanks for the tip. :)

But I'm not exactly sure on how to proceed. I first setup DHCP, then Hotspot, then Radius & add the MAC addresses & bandwidth profiles/limits in the UserManager?

You can use the Hotspot setup function and it will create the IP Pools for you. Then set up UserManager, RADIUS, and configure the hotspot to auth to RADIUS.
