License related question

Thu Dec 18, 2014 7:41 pm

hi
i have an RB411 with L3. I want to put an L4 into it. and now my question is,

1. what will happen with hard coded L3 if i issue an L4 on it
2. is it a good decision for an RB411 or it will be better to buy another L4 board.

goal is creation of an AP for one sector.
Device: RB2011UIAS-RM, RB750GL, CISCO SG300-28, UNIFI UAP-LR

Licenses are not transferrable, so once you replace the L3 with L4, the L3 license disappears. You can always export the L3 license key to a file before installing the L4 key, but there wouldn't be much point in that because the only board you could use it on is the board it is on right now.

Whether it is worth the upgrade price of $45 vs. buying another board is up to you and your particular situation.

New L4 license costs 45$ and you lose the L3 license. New generation RB912 with a L4 license costs just 79$: http://routerboard.com/RB912UAG-2HPnD and you end up with two devices, old one keeps working.
