LM Sensor supporting standard Intel MB

It have been nice if MT can put in a SW pack like the Routerboard.npk
a moterboard.npk :slight_smile: whit the support of LM sensors for the CPU temp
and Volt.

I would LOVE this (and have asked before).

I too have asked for before.

CPU + System, Temperatures, fan speeds, voltage rails.
All very important for “sign of health” of a router, particularly outdoors.

I hope this is on the MT work-list … after RC3 perhaps … :wink:

It has been there. At least since rc2 and I thought i saw it there before.

Sure you get the voltage values “suspiciously perfect” i.e. 3.3V says exactly 3.3V - which is not what the BIOS says when you go to system health - I think these must be “default” values.

Anyone else comment on this?

Yes this is on a routerboard. I missed the fact that this was about non-routerboards.

I’ve asked for this also… but no reply from MT :frowning: please.. we need this… In the summer the temperature is 40 degrees Celsius, and in winter is -20 degrees… I have to know that the board doesn’t get too hot (or cold)

IMHO I don’t think there’s any competitive advantage for them NOT having it on non-MT motherboards, as people use them for a reason - i.e. they need ~1GHz CPU speed. Ironically, those high speed systems are exactly when we DO need temp readouts as they produce more heat, which needs to be managed.

For non MT mobo. You my look for mobo’s that support this. I just finish building a new pc and used an Abit mobo and it came with the software to monitor everything even change clock speeds from window base screens and not through the bios set-up. I am looking at building a main router pc and using it for the mobo just so in can monitor it easier and run MT’s RouterOS with a Cyclades dual T1 card. This will be taking this place of them over priced Cisco routers.

The motherboards that we are using also work with Windows software to monitor the hardware, but unless you are running Windows on that motherboard, the software is useless. No matter what desktop PC motherboard you have, if you are running RouterOS on it, you will not be able to monitor the hardware until the Mikrotik software has added support. I like Mikrotik routers 10 times better than our Cisco routers, but I can buy a used 2500 model Cisco router and an external CSU/DSU for under $100 combined that would terminate a T1 or two without even breaking a sweat, and I could buy a used 2600 model with built-in T1 WICs for several hundred dollars more. Considering the cost of a PCI T1 card and the RouterOS license, plus the cost of miscellaneous parts, a used Cisco router is a better deal. Also worth mentioning is the fact that unless you use an Intel or SuperMicro(etc.) motherboard, you will not likely have the hardware reliability that you would find in the Cisco. Now if a T1 PCI card could be had for $75, then we would be talking, but the prices of the cards I have seen are rediculous…

Recalling a previous thread, the issue isn’t whether the mobo can monitor the values (they all can), it’s writing a driver.
The poster stated that under Linux this had been sorted a long time back, with support for all sorts of diverse mobos.
So AFAIK it’s just a matter of MT prioritising putting it into the OS.
