2.4ghz Signal Issue and how It was resolved.

I’ve posted several questions over the last few weeks if not months now. And I am sure I wrote up this issue on the forms but I did not get it resolved until yesterday and I thought I would share.

I have a 2.4ghz omni link on tower using Mikrotik. Our clients use Linksys GS (now Linksys GL) units loaded with svesoft firmware.

The site we were having problems with was 1/2 mile and I tried replacing all equipment, calbes, antanis. Even moving the antanis. I then bought a Dell Axium unit so that I could monitor the 2.4ghz signals on the fly.

There was like a dead spot in just this one area of town. I would notice the noise level go very high which would make the 2.4ghz band unuseable.

Yesterday on a whim I had a Routerboard that I was planning on deploying on one of my relay sites and I programed it up, placed it at the site and it works great.

It seems the mikrotik unit that is also in a metal indoor case is has much better noise filtering. I was amazed last night while monitoring the link from home that my signal strenth was -41 (most of my users get -61 to -65).

The Mikrotik was the older rb500 with the 802.11b 65mw card.

I have other clinets using the Linksys unit 100 feet away with no troubles, but still will not connect at the location of the mikrotik.

Michael
