2.4GHz wifi USB dongle for Omnitik

Dears,
as (maybe) many of you I am also missing the 802.11 b/g/n capability of omnitik. Thinking of adding an USB 2.4GHz dongle that could provide this functionality. Is there any model that could be used for making the 2.4GHz wifi accesspoint (and wds ap) from omnitik? Ideally with MIMO and 2x RSMA connectors for external antennas.

Or is there really only possible to attach a separate 2.4GHz accesspoint via RJ45?

If someone succeeded (or even only tried unsuccessfully) with it, please, share your experience.

There is one supported chipset, but it doesn’t always work good.

It is the AR9271 chipset. So cards based on that, should work. For example ALFA AWUS036NHA or similar.

Thank you, Normis, appreciate your quick answer.

Unfortunatelly this “dongle” is really too big to fit into the omnitik cable case space. So it would need some extra case, at least. And calculating with its price, additional mounting box, adding your expression that it is not working always good (even not knowing what does it mean actually), it is resulting to another solution. If the AR9271 is the only chipset that works, it is not a way I would like to go.

Is there any other possiblity to use some micro dongle (even without external antenna connectors)? If not, what is the officially recommended solution from Mikrotik how to cover small areas by 2,4GHz wifi under omnitik covered area?

Have a nice day.

In the end, you might find that adding one Groove next to the Omnitik, will do the trick. It really is quite small in real life:

Thank you, it is true.

The problem is, that it is not enough cost-effective. Groove with L4 costs in Czech Repl. around 1700 CZK. Plus it needs antenna around 500 CZK. Omnitik with L4 costs around 900 CZK. I am looking for something that will not cost 2-3times more than 5GHz AP.

In this case it would be better to use RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN in some box, because it costs around 2100 CZK with L5 license (desktop version, the boxless version is much cheaper).

The 2.4GHz omnitik is really missing, as it would be really effective solution and bestseller for sure. Will it be anytime available or Mikrotik will not go in this way anymore?

Will ever work? Is someone working on that?
