What does the new proprietary-extensions option on wireless cards do in 2.9.25? It has two options.. post-2.9.25 and pre-2.9.25.. but I didn’t see anything in the changelog about it..

From wireless documentation,
pre-2.9.25 - include extensions in the form accepted by older RouterOS versions. This will include the new format as well, so this mode is compatiblewith all RouterOS versions. This mode is incompatible with wireless clients built on the new Centrino wireless chipset and may as well be incompatible with some other stations
post-2.9.25 - include extensions in the form accepted by MikroTik RouterOS starting from veriosn 2.9.25, and compatible with all known wireless clients
Guess I should have checked the manual agian before I posted.. I swear it wasn’t there when I looked a couple days ago when I first upgraded and noticed it..

It’s kinda rare that new features make it into the documentation so quick…:cough: rstp :cough: 
I just took a look at the documentation and there was no mention of proprietary extensions. But that’s because my browser had the page cached. Holding down Ctrl and clicking Refresh got the updated page up. Mikrotik should consider setting a ache expiration on the pages if they update them regularly.
Mikrotik should also update the revision information at top of each page so that we know when to look for new information. The wireless information, according to the page, is Document revision: 2.1 (Thu Nov 17 19:15:57 GMT 2005). Since the page says it hasn’t been updated since November 2005, I wouldn’t even think to look through it for documentation of this new setting.

It looks that we all should use “post-2.9.25”, why is then the default settings “pre-2.9.25” ?
Should I change this to “post” or leave to “pre” ? I`m using SR2 and SR5 cards. Thanx for answer

THe docs says as follows:

So if it is compatible the ALL knows clients (even with the old one) whats the point?

using proprietary-extension=pre-2.9.25 or any version older than 2.9.25, wireless clients (who are using new Intel Centrino PCI-Express cards) won’t establish communications with access point.
I understand that.
But why should I even want to use the pre-2.9.25 option? To block such clients and do not allow them to associate?
“pre-2.9.25” does not work with Intel Centrino PCI-express cards.
“post-2.9.25” does work with ALL client cards
Sorry, but I still don`t understand why this option even exists? Why to downgrade something when it is compatible with the old one and gives you the possibility to support new hardware type too at the same time ??

I think that what Jager is asking is, why not make the default post-2.9.25? And to go a step further, why not eliminate the option entirely and just force everybody to use the post-2.9.25 functionality?
To come at the same question from a different angle, is there EVER any good reason why someone would WANT to set the option to pre-2.9.25? Are there some situations where certain things won’t work with the post-2.9.25 setting, and that is why you give us the option of using either/or?
It seems to some of us that if pre-2.9.25 works with everything EXCEPT for the latest Centrinos, and post-2.9.25 works with everything INCLUDING the latest Centrinos, then why did you make an option out of it rather than just making the change to fix the Centrino problem universal for everyone without requiring that a setting be changed?

I cant always express my reflections properly, my english is not sko good. But, youve got the point what I mean with my previous post. Thans again!
I would guess that there are currently both options as it is a new feature and they wanted to leave the old settings available in the event that there are issues with the new setting. Since it is new and hasn’t been tested much, it’s nice to have the old setting to revert back to. Now, if this isn’t why, nevermind Nobody seems to be reporting problems with the new setting which is nice to see!

Can you give us some examples of features that won’t work between older versions and newer versions? And do you mean that these things don’t work if, say you have a MikroTik AP with mode set to post-2.9.25 and a MikroTik 802.11 Station/CPE older than 2.9.25 or with mode set to pre-2.9.25?

This implies that in 2.9.26, you came up with a way to make the post-2.9.25 feature work with all older versions of MikroTik, correct? Does that mean we can expect to see this option disappear later since it is not necessary to ever use the pre-2.9.25 feature anymore, as long as you’re using >= 2.9.26?
