4G Modem Support

Hello,

I was wondering if there are any supported 4g USB modems for the Routerboard out there. In particular I’d prefer an LTE Modem from Verizon, but I would settle for a 4G USB modem from Sprint.

I looked over the list of modems and it looks like its just a list of 3g Modems.

Thanks for any help.

Charlie

I havent had the chance to test one… No towers for sprint out here with 4G…

The new sprint 600s should work…

The 250 series work. but is such a strange form factor… wont fit in anything usefull…

You MAY need to drop a Sup Out to MikroTik if the device isnt seen (Sprint)…

I havent tried any of the LTE devices (TMobile)..

Thanks for the reply.

I’m testing out a few modems now and it’s not looking great. I have the Pantech UML 290 for Verizon LTE and the U301 for Sprint. But I get no where when I try to follow these instructions:

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Option_Globetrotter_HSDPA_USB_Modem

Here’s my output:

[admin@MikroTik] > /system resource usb print
 # DEVICE VENDOR NAME SPEED
 0 2:1 RB400 EHCI 480 Mbps
 1 1:1 RB400 OHCI 12 Mbps
 2 2:7 Pantech, Incorporated PANTECH UML290 480 Mbps
[admin@MikroTik] > /port print
Flags: I - inactive
 # NAME CHANNELS USED-BY BAUD-RATE
 0 serial0 1 Serial Console auto
 1 usb2 1 9600
[admin@MikroTik] > /port set usb2 baud-rate=9600
[admin@MikroTik] > /system serial-terminal usb2 channel=0

[Ctrl-A is the prefix key]

(and then the cursor just sits there)

EDIT:

I just realized that I have to type ATI. Haha. It works past this point now. I’ll keep moving forward and let you know how it progresses.:

[admin@MikroTik] > /system serial-terminal usb2 channel=0

[Ctrl-A is the prefix key]

ATI
Manufacturer: PCD
Model: UML290VW
Revision: L0290VWB333F.230 1 [Mar 15 2011 15:03:20]
IMEI: 990000471166639
+GCAP: +CIS707-A, CIS-856, CIS-856-A, +CGSM, +CLTE1

OK

I got the Pantech UML290 to work finally. It took alot of trial and error. Here’s what my /interface ppp-client print looks like:

 0 R name="ppp-out1" max-mtu=1500 max-mru=1500 mrru=disabled port=usb2 data-channel=0 info-channel=0 pin="" user="" password="" profile=default
      phone="*99***3#" dial-command="ATDT" modem-init="ATZ" null-modem=no dial-on-demand=no add-default-route=yes use-peer-dns=yes
      keepalive-timeout=30 allow=pap,chap,mschap1,mschap2

Great info!! I have been trying the Sprint 250U but I have been unable to make it work.

Mine also hangs at: [Ctrl-A is the prefix key]

Ok when I get to this screen:

[admin@MikroTik] > /system serial-terminal usb2 channel=2

[Ctrl-A is the prefix key]

It just sits here when I try ATI. What I am I missing?

You have the wrong channel. If you look back at the /port print command, this modem only has one channel.

Try channel=0.

It’s touchy too. If it doesn’t work right away after you messed around a bit, try rebooting and doing it again.

I’m trying out Sprint’s 4G usb modem also, the U301. I’m getting stuck when I try to send any terminal commands to it.

I found a great doc from Sprint explaining the settings/inits required:

http://www.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/downloads/Sprint_Mobile_Broadband_Setup_Guide.pdf

But after implementing this and starting the ppp-client I get the following errors:

[admin@MikroTik] /interface ppp-client>

I’m done with my testing at this point. I mailed in my supout to technical support in the hopes that they can get it to work. No matter what channel I try on the port I can’t get the modem to respond.

Hi,

I had quite a few problems also with supported 3G modems, the problem is becouse they have also drive with SW in them, switching the USB stick to modem only mode, and modems are working fine. Check on www for AT command for particular modem, how to switch it to modem only mode.

Does your U301 work with ROS ?

currently 4G modems will not work in RouterOS, some of the modems work in 3G mode.

did you tested this one ?

csickles
The new sprint 600s should work…

We will use it in 4G on Windows and 3G in ROS.
This can work ?

A WHILE back, when I spoke to “the boys”..

The modem will “figure out” what service is available and pick the best option.

If 4G is available, the card should connect…

I have used the U301 (sprint)… works fine in the more recent releases…

I cant remember which modem replaced the 301U, but I know it works beeter and uses much less power..
