9HPn Issues

Hello all!

I have a network of nine 9HPn radios
One is an AP Bridge, all the others are Station Bridges. I’m running RouterOS 6.36rc21 with firmware 3.33 on all of them and my SNR is around +40dB at all stations

I’m having problems where I lose connectivity to devices on the Ethernet side of the station radios. The connection to the radio is fine, but I cannot get “through” the radio
The Ethernet interface remains “up” but I simply can’t communicate with devices on that interface from my AP radio.

When the problem happens, it doesn’t go away – I have to reboot the station radios
The occurrences seem pretty random, taking anywhere from hours to days to reoccur

I’ve attached the wireless configurations of the radios
Any troubleshooting/fix suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Note that this is my first time using a MikroTik product but I am familiar with the technology

Thanks!

900MHz band, that’s a tough band to work in…

Can you access the ‘faulty’ unit(s) from the other side of the wireless rather than locally from the ‘faulty’ ethernet ?

How are you linking the Ethernet side to wifi (e.g Do you make a BRIDGE and port link the wifi interface and the ethernet interface to the BRIDGE ?(Also do you bond the IP address to the BRIDGE(correct way of doing it?)).

Have you wrote down the ethernet MAC address of the faulty unit and attempted(WINBOX / MAC-TELNET ) to access the ‘faulty’ unit via MAC address when it fails(potentially a IP issue).. ?

Do you have log’s going to a SYSLOG server to see if something important spits out prior to ‘failure’ ?

Have you tried setting/force the devices ethernet speed to 10MBps(full duplex) .. I know that sucks, but since you would be about that level or less with that setup, you would probably not notice!

Cheers

Hi killersoft, yep the wireless and Ethernet are bridged. The IPs are assigned to the bridges.
The thing is - I can always connect to the stations over wireless (with Winbox via IP) but sometimes I can’t reach the devices connected to the Ethernet port of the radios
I can get “to” the radio, just not “through” it

Note that my radios take anywhere from hours to days to experience the problem. 5 out of 8 stations have experienced the problem with no difference in configuration.

I could try removing setting the Ethernet speed to 10mbps - perhaps autonegotation is causing problems… but seems a bit unlikely. Each radio is connected directly to a single device.

I’ve been working with MikroTik support, they’ve got me to add more logging but it doesn’t seem very clear as to what the problem is

Any suggestions/moral support is welcome
Thanks!

Hi all

Figured I’d follow up
Turned out that the Ethernet cabling had a few issues. We had some punch downs that weren’t quite punched down properly and was open to atmospheric conditions (dew/condensation)

The most important thing was looking at the “Link Down” count on the Ethernet interface. The link would go up and down randomly, sometimes a few times a minute. Every once in a while, the Ethernet link on the radio would be “up” but the link on the opposite device would be “down” and they’d never recover until you cycle power on the radio or the opposite device

Removed the punch down completely and everything’s working great now!
