Hello everyone. I recenlty got this Mikrotik Routerboard from my neighbor and managed to set it up all by myself in router mode following tutorials. Now I wished to do the port forwarding thing in order to change the NAT type from 3 to 2 on my PS4. However, no matter how I set the rules, one for each port or all of them in a row separated by commas, the NAT type is stil type 3. I really wanted to do this because when I can come to my parents room and plug the rj-45 directly, the overall experience and loading times are better, but I cannot do this all the time and I wish to play in my room via WiFi, at least until I get my long 30mts rj-45 cable back and can set it up properly. Besides, port forwarding is apparently the only solution to disconnection issues in Red Dead Online, so those extra ports are on the line.
The Summary:
The RB is 951g-2hnd, I’m using Winbox v3.24 (64bits).
I want to port forward in order to get a NAT type 2.
IMPORTANT THING: The router my internet provider gave me is not one I can modify myself, as they are the ones who can actually mess with, like, every setting. I recently called and asked them to do the port forwarding, and I’m not really sure what they did because when I tried to play Red Dead Online the same issues persisted. I was NOT connected to that main router, but to another one my dad had set up by plugging this long rj-45 from the main router to the other one, and this one creates another WiFi signal. This last one router I removed and replaced with the stronger Mikrotik Rb. So if my provider did something, it was probably the main router the only affected, right?
I’m sorry if I wrote too much but I would really appreciate the help. Please tell me what you need me to show you in order for you to help me.
Forget PS4, get regular exercise, read books and socially interact with other human beings.
Why, because if you dont have control over the first router or the second router before traffic hits the router board you are using, you are screwed.
I exercise regularly, don’t read a lot but watch series with my brother and movies with my parents and sometimes call my friends and talk and play LoL, or just talk.
So basically I should contact my internet provider again, right? I mean I could do that, but since my console does not connect to my main router because it can’t reach the wifi signal, I don’t know what Ip i should give them, as when I connect to the RB the ps4 Ip is different than the one the main router would give.
For example: I assigned xxx.xxx.3.1 to the RB and the resluting ps4 Ip is xxx.xxx.3.350.
My main router is xxx.xxx.0.1 and when i connect my laptop to it, the assigned Ip is xxx.xxx.0.20
So I’m kinda confused as to what do to here. Is there a way I can set up the RB as a repeater so it generates the same wifi signal as my main router? So the changes the company makes to the main router apply to this one?
Well if you need to daisy chain port forwardings, the main router port forwards to the LANIP address of the second router (on the main routers lan network). This LANIP is also the WANIP of the second router.
On the second router you have to port forward to the LANIP address of the final router (on the second router lan network). This is also the WANIP of the final router.
On the final router one port forwards to the device/pc that requires the service.
Oh ok I think I get you, but first, sorry I got you confused, I’m only using two routers, the main one an the Mikrotik one.
So, in that order of ideas, I should set up the port forwarding from my main router to the mikrotik rb ip adress, and in the mikrotik rb settings, that’s where I port forward to the device IP (the PS4 in this case), am I correct?
If so, what would you say would be easier/less messy or complicated:
Do that method you just mentioned
Set the Mikrotik RB as a repeater with also working LAN ports
