after the upgrade to 7 router becomes unresponsive after scheduled reboot (every 5 days). (happened 2 times and now i have disabled it)
i can’t connect to the router to see what’s the problem, the leds don’t light correctly as i have set them, they remain off instead of showing ethernet port activity/port active.
the only option for me is to factory reset and restore backup.
can i get any information from the backup it takes before the restore, is any other way to get informations about the problem after the restore?
is any guide for things i have to change/mind when upgrading from 6 to 7?
It is best not to upgrade but to install v7 from scratch using netinstall.
Then you can cut/paste the original exported config to build back your config.
(of course not for parts that have been completely revamped, such as BGP)
What you can do when it hangs depends on the router model. E.g. with serial port you can do a lot more.
And, you can see if it can be connected from winbox at MAC address, and check the config.
A wellknown problem with v7 is that it loses random sections of config (different for everyone, but the same once it happens for you) at reboot.
In my router it loses IPsec identities, for others it may lose IP addresses or some similar critical config.
thanks for your replay, the loss of random part of the config scared me more. now i have to verify the config from export to make sure i haven’t loss some firewall rule.
BTW my routers are RB951 and RB941.
i’ve totally lost the confidence to upgrade my customer routers..
I agree, it is not good. I upgraded my hAP ac2 from 7.2rc3 to 7.2rc4 and now the /routing table section was lost.
It just isn’t reliable. This really should be fixed. Fortunately, until now I have only seen entire sections lost, not individual items.
But maybe that is just coincidence and it can happen as well…
But then, on “your customer routers” you should not be using version 7 at all unless they cannot run version 6.
