YES, sign up for a VPS and get a CHR and install on the VPS and you have your own relay server! :-PP
BTH is not just a regular wireguard tunnel. It has UDP holepunching and you can connect to your device even if it’s deep inside some private network behind NAT.
We currently don’t plan to support 3rd party relays, but it’s an interesting idea worth considering.
Yes, like self-hosted ZeroTier.
A variation on this theme is to use BTH as a tool to enable ISPs/MSPs to remotely manage both routers (which I can usually get to) and internal devices, like APs (which I can’t unless I put in custom NAT rules). I do like how my customers’ Ubiquiti devices can be configured to connect to my UISP and UniFi instances for remote management and statistics reporting.
Also, as an ISP/MSP, it could be integrated into a customer portal where customers could log in to their account, and from there be given instructions on how to get to their router and/or APs.
+1
This has been suggested before in @normis’s BTH thread… so I’ll take this as progress
A few months ago it was:
Ahh I get the appeal. One could host BTH relay server on ONE mikrotik (with publicly reachable IP) and then use BTH on other MTs, using the the existing relay server on the MT, as the middle go to site. Thus saving the cost of a CHR and VPS and basically providing the same thing, at least for wireguard.
But why a container, just make it another option in the IP cloud menu or something.
I would make it an options package, one time payment, for the life of the device $20 bucks or something… I mean Normis has to eat!!
Or if you purchase a CHR you get one free MT relay server license too.
Sure
the point is on which diet.
Would crackers and water (ramen and tea and one beer on sundays) be enough or caviar, lobster and champagne?

I am sure his significant other would welcome an intervention!! ![]()
