hello guys , I’ve recently bought a RB2011UiAS-RM and i saw that it has 5X gigabit Ethernet ports ? but when i use the loop back address to do a bandwith test in both direction ? it gives only 100mbps as a total ? is this all the router can do and BTW i wanna use it for an Hotspot with 100 mbps ? do you think it can handle that? i wanna bound 5 adsl 20mbps WAN links which gives a 100mbps internet , i bought to use it for such purpose or at least run a 60 mbps hotspot ? as the first answer says i thin it can handle that ? but can it do that with the downding connections ? thank you all
The bandwidth test is only giving maximum figures when it is done from a router with sufficient capacity, via the router you want to test, to another router or bandwidth test system.
When running it on one of the endpoints, or in your case on both of the endpoints, the CPU usage of the bandwidth test tool itself is not available for routing, so the total speed will be (much) lower.
An RB2011 should be able to route 100 Mbit/s when the config is not too complicated. It will not be able to IPsec at that rate, for example.
Of course you should use the recommended config of ether1=WAN ether2-5=LAN and not use ether6-10 in the active part of your network.
(it is OK to use them for out-of-band management or some other secondary use)
Exactly. You can use ports 6-10 for a printer, IPTV box, weather station etc… In any case, devices that do not need much traffic.
