Greetings Friends!
Back to Mikrotik forum after a long time.
I am thinking to buy a Mikotik Router for Home Use.
came across the following routers that might suit my need.
RB951-2n
RB750UP
RB750
I have 2 internet links 1st:ADSL & 2nd:DSL (PPoE)
a) i would like to route all the mobile phones through ADSL & Computers through DSL.
b) set b/w limit to certain devices.
c) will be using inside room (so no need to be weather proof)
d) configure fail over in case one ISP goes down the internet should be up from the another available link.
i guess level 4 license would be enough for my needs.
Many Thanks
Thanks honzam.
I need to shop now. So I was searching the product at amazon.co.uk but could not find it on amazon.co.uk (I’m ordering it from UK and some one from UK will get it me to my location)
by the way the datasheet says that
The RB951Ui-2HnD is a wireless > SOHO AP > with a new generation Atheros
CPU and more processing power. It has five Ethernet ports, one USB 2.0
port and a high power 2.4GHz 1000mW 802.11b/g/n wireless AP with
antennas built in.
It has a 600MHz CPU,128MB of RAM and PoE output function for port #5 -
it can power other PoE capable devices with the same voltage as applied
to the unit. Maximum load on the port is 500mA.
Package contains RouterBOARD 951Ui-2HnD in a plastic case and power
adapter.
is it AP ? I’m in need of a router.
I would be thankful if somebody could pass me the link to buy online from a reliable site from UK.
All 951 series devices are full-blown routers with integrated internal WiFi access point. Differences you could check on http://routerboard.com
You can switch AP funcionality on/off when you need it. It is not necessary for routing.
From user point of view the 951G-2HnD is the best, next is 951Ui-2Hnd and the last is 951-2n but all thay share the exact same set of functions. The differences are in speed of ethernet and power of installed radio.
Distributors in UK could be found here: http://www.mikrotik.com/buy/europe/unitedkingdom
I know BUT there are some beginners reading this forum and they could take such statement as the only definition of access point so it is better to clarify it.
@lexicon: to bo honest…
A. 951-2n has slower clock so it will be a bit slower in routing but you have not mentioned what speed of connection you have so I do not know if it is a problem.
B. Mikrotik has no ADSL devices so you need to have ADSL modem which convert the DSL signal to RJ45 and you then connect it to 951
Thanks BartoszP
A.) The connection of ADSL is 1mbps and DSL ( PPoE ) is 3mbps max and maximum of 6 users. So it should not be a problem.
B.) Yes i do need to keep ADSL router before Mikrotik router for ADSL connection as there will not be a RJ-11 port. I guess DSL PPoE connection can be made through Mikrotik else i have put another DSL router before which will consume 5 watt
