I’m trying to block Facebook, tiktok and youtube on my MikroTik L009UiGS-2HaxD router but I can’t manage it. In fact facebook is blocked on the PC but when I use the facebook, youtube or tiktok application on the phone it works.
I have followed several tutorials on youtube that use layer7protocol or addresses but it does not work.
Could you help me by suggesting an effective method of blocking these services effectively on PCs and phone applications?
L7 filtering is very resource intensive, you need dedicated HW for it. And L009 definitely is not the most powerful router.
Also, the URLs for those applications change quite often so it’s a game of “Whack-A-Mole” you will be playing.
You can maybe use the Adlist feature (or any other adblocker like Adguard or PiHole …) and add those URLs there ? Then the DNS requests will be blackholed. Much easier on your router then L7 filtering.
That’s how I would handle it.
But be aware, a smart user can still get around this.
