use the “snooper” tool to see which channel is not used by anyone else.

Sorry for “respawning” this very old post…

Normis, forgive me, but the question is one on “hit-parade” of the “answer you would have but you won’t ask for” by most users…

I try to rephrase the question(s) in behalf of hundreds users:

Is MikroTik wireless system (single AP or CAPsMAN) capable of dynamically change the frequency after checking the wireless environment/neighborhood ??

Is this performed only when each single radio restarts (assuming channel=auto) ??

Should we always perform a frequency (not coverage) site survey and choose “once and for all” frequency for each AP and tune it manually every time the huge changes in wireless environment require it ??

I know most of us would need an MTCWE training but I hope someone could give a clear answer as a pacesetter for this “hot” issue…

Thank you !

Hi OKNET,

I just had a similar question, did some experiments and here is what I observed:

If you set the wireless frequency to “auto” in AP mode, the AP scans for “free” channels and if found, uses one of them. I don’t know if the AP is able to discover the least congested channels in noisy environments, have to try this yet. Discovery is only done when the interface comes up.
