I’m putting together a small WISP and using MikroTik this time. I’m new to MikroTik, but learning as quickly as I can.
I’m in configuration mode - here’s what I have now:
A RB751G-2HnD with its WAN (port 1) connected to my DSL modem
A RB711UA-5HnD connected to port 2 of the RB751G-2HnD
The RB751G-2HnD has an SSID of the default ‘MikroTik’.
The RB711UA-5HnD has an SSID of ‘RC’.
I have an old Lenovo laptop running up to date XP. I cannot imagine having 5 Ghz WiFi in it, it’s several years old.
When I open Window’s wireless configuration I see both the MikroTik and RC SSIDs. If I turn off the RB711UA-5HnD I no longer see the RC SSID.
I don’t understand this. I’m associated with RC right now and I’m hitting the Internet. Either the RB711UA-5HnD has a 2.4 GHZ radio in addition to the 5Ghz (which is working with an SXT HPnD right now), someone recently put a dual band card in my laptop while I was sleeping, or somehow the RB751G-2HnD is piping the RB711UA-5HnD SSID to 2.4 Ghz.
I don’t understand why this is happening at all!
Any ideas?
Thanks!
