Whenever I try to make a backup it gives me the error “couldn’t make backup - action failed (6)”
I have a routerboard RB951 series
Do you have enough space ?
…of course i do, i tried it on 2 separate computers, the one its directly plugged into has just about half its memory left, and the one i tried over the wireless connection has a terabyte hard drive…
Do you cannot make backup or you cannot copy backup file to computer ?
Are you connected with IP or MAC ? IP mode is far, far better.
It’s not about space in your pc but in the routerboard…
IP, one computer is connected via ethernet cable, the other one, which i am at right now, is a wireless connection, no matter how many times i try it wont let me make a backup, it did make a backup the previous day before i rebooted the router after i set it up originally, i have been having issues trying to figure out how to configure it to work properly and i am not going to make any changes until i can make a backup file…which for some reason it will not allow me to
i do not know how to check the memory in the routerboard
Once more:
Can you make backup inside router with WinBox or from command line ?
Do you see this new backupfile in file managaer of router ?
Can you copy or not this file to your computer ?
I have primarily been using webfig but i did just try using winbox as well and i get the same error, i can however download the 1 backup file there was from when i reset the router during its installation, but as far as i can tell “I” cannot manually make a backup file using webfig or winbox, and not sure how to use the command line to do so
also sorry if i seem snippy i have been trying to properly set this thing up since i got it and so far its performing more poorly than my years old linksys router because i dont know how to set it up, and the guides i look at arent exactly helpful to me right now so just trying to figure this out 1 step at a time.
ok from winbox i think i see my memory usage, it says 16.9 MiB of 128MiB used, so if that is the memory it isnt out of space, and i tried using the command line, still the same error.
Check the disk and remove useless files from it. Free ram is not relevant.
thats the thing, i installed this just may 23, i dont know what files are useless or not, i can remove the old backup file as i already downloaded it, the one that it made automatically on reset.
You can normally remove all the files. They are not needed for the system.
the only worry i have with that is they are classified as directory’s
nvm the folders were empty, and now i managed to create a backup, first step done, still what is this “action failed (6)” even about
Many errors are with number 6. I have never seen an explanation for that.
