Dear all,
what I really want to have from Mikrotik is a kind of “cAP AC” WLAN access point
Why? Mikrotik has CAPSMAN, where IPv4 and IPv6 traffic is tunneled to the controller => A feature many other (smaller) vendors with a management software do not offer. And if you look at the bigger ones (Cisco, HP, Aruba,…) those will charge you an arm and leg for licensing each access point you want to control by their Hardware-Controller.
Ideas for a “cAP AC” device:
– “cAP” design
– dual band 2.4+5.0 GHz
---- Is “tri band”, i.e. 2.4+5.0+5.0GHz difficult to build?
– 802.11ac (wave 2) ASICs, e.g. QCA9990/QCA9992/QCA9994 with more CPU power for more concurrent sessions
---- I assume a newer kernel is needed for that one? RoS v7?
– 256MB RAM for more concurrent sessions
– level 5 license for more concurrent active users
---- I´m currently seeing >230 connected clients on some indoor access points
– If you look at those bigger vendors: 4x4:4 is expensive, although not needed at all
----So 300$ for a Mikrotik 4x4:4 device? Why not, we will pay the price!
– 1Gbe RJ45/SFP uplink port. Who needs 2.5Gbe…
– passive PoE doesn´t matter, keep it,
---- although 802.3af/802.3at would be “nice”
Am I the only one that wants such a device? What do you think?
