CCR2216 High CPU Load on Single Core (PPPoE + RADIUS Setup)

Hello,

I’m currently running a MikroTik CCR2216 as a concentrator for approximately 1,500 clients using PPPoE, with authentication via RADIUS Manager.

I’m encountering an issue where CPU usage is consistently high, but the load appears to be concentrated on a single core rather than being distributed across multiple CPUs.

I would like to ask:

  • What are the common causes of single-core CPU bottlenecks in this type of setup?

  • Is this expected behavior for PPPoE/RADIUS environments on RouterOS?

  • What optimizations or best practices can help improve CPU load distribution and overall performance?

Any insights, recommendations, or configuration tips would be greatly appreciated.

PPPoE bound to 1 CPU has been a common problem since ..... forever.
