Dear,
On my network I’m using a bunch of routerboards with 802.11B/G cards to distribute service to my customers.
Most (if not all) of those distribution nodes are fixed at 802.11B.
Today I started setting up one to 802.11G-only in order to get more theoretical bandwidth.
In that moment I had 4 clients: 2 Ubiquiti Nanostation 2, and two mikrotik RB133 + R52 (I’m not sure about radio model).
I changed band mode to 802.11g-only and then:
The ubiquiti clients reconnected automatically.
The routerboards dissapeared. Had to step back, login to them, reboot them and re-change to 802.11G-only. After their reboot they connected.
I checked the ACK timeout and ping, and noticed that from my node to those clients ACK timeout increased from about 30, to 55-60us, and what alerted me:
Ping increased from 1-3ms, to 8-10ms.
802.11G is supposed to be faster and with less latency than 802.11B, why then it is ping rising when setting up 802.11G instead of 802.11B?
