CHR Esxi increse disk size

We bought CHR licence from our local reseller.

We want to install CHR on esxi 5.5.
Reading manuals (and trying to install) I saw that VMDK file is limited to 128MB.
I also saw that we shod increase drive size for production use.
For me looks like that there is no way to increase VMDK IDE file on ESXI.
My questions are:
Is there difference when RuterOS on ESXI is installed using downloaded ISO. (I see that there is differences in platforms VMDK show us x84_64 and installation from ISO give us only 86 arch)?
Can we get VMDK with bigger size so we can easy that deployed it on ESXi?
Another question is
Do we need to increase size, or we can just add another disk as USB disk or another drive.
When we install Ruteros using default iso-instaltion then there is no problems whit disk size, we can set it as much as we like becouse we create different drive for instalation attach ISO as DVD/ROM.
But I relay do not want to broke licence on incorrect version of.

Thanx in advanced

The VMDK on the Mikrotik’s download page is more suitable for use with VMware Player rather than with ESXi, so you need to convert it before trying to use in your VM. You can do it on your ESXi box itself (I find this way the easiest for me). Enable (temporarily) ssh or console access to your ESXi box, then get to the ESXi’s command line and do the following:

vmkfstools -i original_image_name.vmdk converted_image_name.vmdk

There should be no problem resizing the converted image via the ESXi client UI.

These are licensed differently.

You can do both. However “secondary” (non-system) drives in RouterOS have some restrictions, so check the documentation first to see if it fits your needs.

CHR is much better for any virtual systems. The ISO is only for actual PC devices.

Thank you on fast and correct replay.

vmkfstools -i

After that there extennding disk works fine

vmkfstools -X 10G lt10g.vmdk

Only one reaming issue is that looks like there is no way to increase disk over 10GB

I did try resizing disk to 8GB, 10GB, 20GB and 40GB

Whenever disk has provisioning size over 10GB resources in WinBox shows 70.0MIB.
Is that bug on counters or disk can’t be over 10GB size.
Here is picture what I get when I resize disk over 10GB.

I think that we are to be fine whit 9.9GB of disk size for router.

Thanks for this vital information. I wish Mikrotik would create a separate manual for CHR installation in ESXi and include these vmkfstools instructions (they are REQUIRED!)

Or rely on industry standards such as OVF…
