I have a number of MT clients on our system using using the bandwidth tests from outfits like dsl reports.com and others. I have tried to explain that once they leave our system I have no control as to speed and usability of the internet. With that in mind I am looking to set up our own bandwidth testing server at the entrance to our network so they can use it to check there connection. I know MT has a bandwidth tester in there package but that isnt a good fit for the Client. So what Im looking for is recomendations for a software package that I can use for the testing server that the client can use with their web browser. So far all that I can find is VM wares product, but that is total overpriced and you have to buy a renewal each year to continue to get it to work. If possible I would like for it to be a linux solution vs. Microsoft trash
Thanks
Why bw-test is not good for clients?
add test user with only test and winbox allowed policies and users will be able to run bw test
Well my clients are dumb as a box of rocks. Example: I give them access to internet and email. They insist that they use AOL to get on to the internet. They just use my connection to replace the phone line.
I tell them that they are going directly to the internet then to AOL then to the internet, why? I just want a bandwidth test set up they an run from IE or Firefox that is Idiot proof.
It was late last night and I thought I put this under general topics. Sorry for the wrong location. If you guys want to move it ok with me.
You can try this. We are using this for about 3 months now.
http://n-zone.ro/speed-test.html Speedtest MINI
Speed test mini looks nice but I have to say that I’m not looking to pay yearly fees. I would just like to find a program that does the job with minimal investment not continual pay. I’ll keep looking.
This application is offered “as is” free of charge without any support - use it at your own risk.

We have used this in the past but looks like it has changed ownership since we used it.
Its called QCheck, and is free. Your mileage may vary.

http://www.dslreports.com offers theirs for free also.. http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?apply=1
example http://www.shelbywireless.com/speedtest
Their admin interface shows the speed results from everyone who took the test so if a customer does some tests and gets poor speeds you can call them before they call you and complain.
