Connect RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT with RBcAPGi-5acD2nD-XL via POE

Hi guys

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to connect
RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT with RBcAPGi-5acD2nD-XL via POE,
because according to specs, RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT has Passive PoE and RBcAPGi-5acD2nD-XL has poe in 802.3af/at

Thanx

RBcAPGi-5acD2nD-XL accepts indeed 802.3af/at but it also accepts POE in within range 18-57V.

Assuming you use 24V adapter on RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT, it can provide 700mA on POE out. That gives about 16.8W (disregarding losses).

Cap XL AC however needs from 11W up to 24W.
But also take into account that default PSU from hAP AC is 24V @ 1.2A which means it can only deliver 28.8W.
You already need up to 17W for hAP AC itself. That only leaves 11W, maybe 15W for the next device.
Therefor you may run into a problem there (and it can already be at startup when such a device typically draws the most power).

So you need a PSU which can provide a lot more power. Worst case 17 + 24 = 41W. (OK, really worst case ...)

Changing PSU on hAP AC to 57V version (if you can find them, should be at least 800mA), doesn't really solve this problem.
Then it can give 57V x 350mA on POE out port which translates to 19.9W (disregarding losses).
More power but still at the limit in some conditions for cAP XL AC.

So I would say, no, you can not do this. At least not reliably.

I would not recommend fiddling too much with the RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT PoE.

It is an old device and it can have some issues. It is time to replace it, when you consider buying a new AP anyway.
