CRS520 and DWDM tunable optics?

I’m looking at purchasing QSFP28 Tunable DWDM optics for a CRS520-4XS-16XQ-RM. The vendor sells the optics in “CMIS” or “SFF-8636” flavors.

My questions are:

  • Should I purchase the CMIS or SFF-8636 type optic?
  • Does RouterOS support changing the channel/wavelength on Tunable (QSFP28) DWDM optics using either management standard? Or should I purchase an external tool to tune the optic?

Thanks!

RouterOS has no configuration interface for tunable optics. It might also have issues with the power draw from those kind of modules.

I was thinking that might be the case. I’ll use an external tool to tune the optic.

That said, I’ve looked and I could not find any documentation on optic power budgets.

Is there a reference available for how much power is available per port?

Thanks.

Re tuning optics:

… we are interested in such functionality and are looking into the possibility of implementing a variant in the near future.

Re SFF-8636 or CMIS:

The QSFP ports of our devices support both CMIS and SFF-8636 management. The CMIS implementation is relatively new for us, in your case we suggest to follow SFF-8636 for now.
