Cube 60Pro ac Setup Help

I am COMPLETLY new to the mikrotik world and I am having some issues getting off the ground. Having installed several other Point to Point systems in the past, I figured this would be as simple as the rest.

I have a CubeG-5ac60ay-US that we installed at the main building. We also have a CubeG-5ac60ay-SA-US that we’ve installed on a remote building maybe 75ft away. Clear line of site. We are trying to pass network traffic, for the purpose of security cameras between the 2 locations.

After hours of trial and error, despite my best research, I’m stumped. EVERYTHING I am finding points towards connecting to the 2 units and setting up their “wireless” submenu options, however I do not have “Wireless” submenus. I see “quick set, wifi, interfaces, wireguard. bridge” etc. But no wireless. I’ve update each unit to the latest routeros (7.15.3) as well as winbox to the latest version.

I’m begning to think that we just didn’t buy the correct units? Tech support did send me a nice article to follow for setup, but again, it refers to the “wireless” submenu. Anyone with any insight here?

Why? :open_mouth:
The rule of the thumb (for beginners) is to leave the OS as is (and anyway ask before upgrading).

The menu “wireless” is now “wi-fi”, depending on which version and drivers you have installed.
It is confusing:

Check what you have installed, you want the “old” drivers:
routeros + wireless
since you are using the w60G interface.

The SA is usually used for PtMP setup, if you have only two devices PtP, two Cubes Pro (not SA) would have been more suitable (and there is a version with two units substantially pre-configured and pre-coupled, called “wireless wire”), but at 75 feet distance there should be no issues.

Coincidentally, there is another member who is setting up a similar connection, this thread might give you some inspiration:

Since you are running a latest 7.15.3 there may be some changes needed, if I were you I would seriously consider the idea of downgrading to the “long term release” 6.49.13.

I did in fact roll back the version per your suggestion. This made the process go infinitly better. With the wireless menu showing itself, i was able to get them talking to each other and passing data back and forth in no time.

I wish I would’ve been provided with the appropriate pieces, but thats not always the world i live in. Im sure most can relate.

FWIW out of the box these were only 1 version behind, and that also didn’t provide the “wireless” menu. A collegue actually noticed this and thought maybe the upgraded firmware may show the wireless menu. That and its like step 6 on the little pamphlet.

I appreciate your assistance on this. It absolutely got me on the right path to success. Hats off to you!

Happy it worked out well
