Danteswitch

Looking for a smaller switch like up to 8 ports or something who has a powerful cpu and switchchip to be able to hande Dante traffic on RouterOS
I was thinking of only have the switch for Dante traffic. So no other data on it. Just a standalone.
I kinda wish that there was a smaller switch with PoE out on all ports. And there kinda are but its too slow. CRS112.

Or divide with two vlan. One for Dante and one for data.
I have not done this with RouterOS only with SwOS.

I wish that there was a little bit more documentation and config examples within the Dante documentation that allready exists now on the QoS page.

How slow is slow in regards to the CRS112? Mine is doing VLAN @wirespeed.

I hadn’t heard of Dante befor, doesn’t seem to be any specific about it:

If you still have the CRS112, make sure you configure it properly:
https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/ROS/pages/103841836/CRS1xx+2xx+series+switches+examples

@orfeous, Starting from ROS v7.15, all Mikrotik QoS-capable switches can use Dante. For more info on switches supporting Dante, check out these links:

Ps @erlinden,
Dante is a standard for running lossless, multi-channel, low-latency digital audio over Ethernet.

On 1G links, Dante does not require QoS. That is, until you don´t have other traffic competing with the streams. So you can also use any SWOS device with 1G ports, but don´t send Dante over 1G Trunks between switches without QoS.

It might work, but if this is for a recording setup and Dante is sharing the network with other bulk traffic, I’d say QoS is essential to maintain audio quality. Dante is pretty sensitive to latency and jitter, so QoS makes sure that Dante streams are prioritized over other types of network traffic.

Bottom line: why cheap out and risk problems over just $40–$50 by dropping QoS support when the rest of the audio recording equipment might be worth magnitudes more than the network? I mean, you can get a CRS310 (8-port 2.5GbE) or CRS326 (24-port 1GbE) with QoS support for about $200. For more advanced QoS profiles, you’re looking at around $800 and up.

A switch doesn’t use it’s CPU if configured correctly. CRS112 is a bit tricky to configure. Any misstake and the traffic will end up in the CPU.
A L009 has a decent switch as well, and is easier to use, but lacks QoS features.

I’ve run a number of PCM 48k RTP Audio streams over my CRS112 with QoS and never have any issues. Not Dante tough.

Tell me more please!

Thank you! I’m well aware of that. That’s why I also ask for more help about it since there are only documentation for a default configuration assuming all ports are in a bridge and any port can do Dante. But there are no examples of vlan configurations or stuff like that with Dante. You can do two bridges but then one of them can’t have hardware offloading

Thank you! I’m aware of SwOS. Current using Dante on Vlan with SwOS but that lacks other features. That’s also why I want to use RouterOS.

QoS can’t be configured in SwOS.

I already have some 310 and 326 but they still have no PoE
They smallest one i can find is the CRS316 outdoor model who also have QoS and PoE out on all ports. But an outdoor model isn’t rack mountable nor optimal for desk use

Dante adapters and some other Dante equipment powers on PoE that’s why it’s great to have PoE also on the switch.

That’s also why I really can’t find a smaller switch with PoE, QoS capability and 10gig uplink.

Please tell me more about that config for the CRS112.
As far as I know that doesn’t have QoS support on the switch chip.

When I reread your first post, I realized I totally missed two key details: that you’ll be using the switch standalone and with PoE. With that in mind and since you will only run pure Dante traffic, pretty much any switch with PoE will do.

Ps..
Looks like you’re double-quoting your replies.

No, something else is going on … the underlying phpBB codes are correct but they don’t display correctly when used in his posts.
Ah, found it … he had “Disable BB code” active in his posts. Correcting the rest now.
