I configure our routerboards (133c) with static addresses on the wireless cards, and configure the wireless as an AP BRIDGE. I have the IP address for the wireless configured on the wireless card, in a 192.168.2.x range. All of the laptops that we provide are also statically assigned in the wireless range. I want to configure the ETHER1 interface as a DHCP client so that our clients can plug their access points into any wired network, regardless of what IP range they have (192.168.x.x, 172.16.x.x, etc.), and be able to access their own network or the internet from the client laptops we provide, if they so desire. I have been testing one of our routerboards in order to achieve this, but have had no luck.
I can connect with a client to the wireless card, and I can ping the wireless card IP address. I then connect the ETHER1 interface to our wired network, and it picks up an IP address via DHCP from our own DHCP server. I can then ping that IP address from my laptop, that is connected wirelessly. These are on 2 different subnets. The wireless is 192.168.2.x, and the wired is 172.16.x.x. I cannot, however, from my laptop, ping past the router to our default gateway, which is 172.16.0.1.
If I winbox into the routerboard, I can bring up the ping utility and I can ping everything, even internet addresses. The router is getting the default gateway from our wired network. I can ping my laptop, the IP of the wireless card, the IP of ETHER1, the default gateway, any internet DNS server (e.g., 4.2.2.2). I cannot also ping the wireless IP address from any other wired computer in our office, although I can ping the ETHER1 address.
I’m at a loss here. If there is anyone who can guide me, please, I would appreciate it.
