DHCP Issue? Maybe a fat fingered config?

Ello all!

To begin with, I have a small apartment complex (140+ users) that has a wireless network deployed. Well, after the cable providers modem I have a RB 2011 sitting pretty to manage login through a custom splash page, and other security features. Well every 2-3 days I have to power cycle the MT router due to no more DHCP responses. Now, when this happens it’s almost like the router itself is not-present. Physically the router seems fine, activity lights blinking etc. but the inside tells a different story.

I have YET to go through any logs or sysfiles to determine what EXACTLY is going on when this calamity occurs but decided I would turn here first.

The IP address range is not an issue as I have a /24 subnet providing the DHCP range. I have only one login that users are using to access the internet through the splash page as well.

Any ideas on where to start? Any input at all?

Thanks in advance!

Check the dhcp server leases a couple times a day in “/ip dhcp-server lease”. Are the leases being used up slowly or suddenly? If it is a matter of legitimate clients getting them all, it should be slowly. If it is a hacker trying to DoS you, it will normally be suddenly.

I don’t set my dhcp leases to 3 days. I have been using 1 day on public interfaces. So far it has worked ok.

Thanks a lot. In the original config I had the lease set for 3 days. I’ve started from scratch and creating a new config.

Ok. I have configured the hotspot and have ran into 2 problems.

1.) The hotspot1 server is italicized and in red font when visiting the servers tab under Ip → Hotspot.

2.) When connecting to the eth2, the interface I have set-up as the hotspot interface is giving me a xxx.xxx.88.xxx IP address. When checking the Connection Details it lists 192.168.88.1 as the gateway. dhcp, & DNS server. I still have the default IP information in the MT but have the eth2 interface solely associated with the hotspot. I want to release this IP and obtain a new one to test the splash page. I can’t access the IP I have set for login page.

Any input?
