DHCP & Scopes

Good Day,

We presently have a windows server based system which takes care of our DNS & DHCP, we have different VLAN’s setup which our switches take care of, so different buildings of our campus are on different sets of IP Addresses, like 10.10.10.0/24, 10.10.20.0/24, 10.10.30.0/24 etc.

RIght now the DHCP scopes are setup on the windows server, is something like this possible on RouterOS? We are looking to change a few things to improve our campus network performance, and I am looking at this as an option.

I would also like to setup another caching DNS server, but I am not sure yet if this will help us.

Thanks!

The scope is the network.

You can forward the dhcp or authoritatively answer the dhcp request but only one dhcp server should be on the same layer 2 network. You can set the DNS servers and check the box to answer requests which will allow you to use the mikrotik as a DNS caching server.

I highly recommend using the dhcp setup wizard for configuring the dhcp which will setup the networks, service, & pools for each network that your putting dhcp on. You will have to choose an interface then a subnet then the other settings for each network that the router will be doing dhcp on.
