Disable-CSMA

Can we count on this feature being backported into 2.9?

NO! We have stated numerous times that no new features will be added to the 2.9 series. Only fixes will be introduced into it.

It is the whole point of a new version, isn’t it? Why would we need v3 if v2.9 would have the same features?

Well - maybe because v3.0 isn’t here yet, and won’t be for some time, while motorola canopy is widely available already?

But thanks for the quick reply.

it isn’t ? what’s this?

You didn’t just suggest installing beta software in production environment, did you? I tested it, it helps, that’s why I asked for this.

Dear Normis,

When the Beta-4 ETA ?

We found annoying issues, in BETA-3 :

  • We cannot restart routeros reliably,
its hinder us to deploy Beta3 in semi production environment.

woudln’t backporting to 2.9 make 2.9 the same state as v3 is now?

beta4 is still being tested, maybe later this week. we will check for restart problems. what kind of platforms are they? x86 or RB?

Both.

X-86 = PC & WRAP.

RB = RB112, not yet have 532 for test.

Dear Normis,
Any Update for this issue ?

Andrei

Does it really help to Disable-CSMA?
There was a lot of big talk about this helping but I haven’t seen anyone say one way or the other if it makes any difference at all.
Is disabling CSMA and using Nstreme with polling the solution to Canopy crapping all over our networks?
If so, then what is the catch? Isn’t there always a catch, a BUT! Or some kind of gotcha in the end?

look back to some of the posts I made around the time beta 2 and 3 came out…

disableing it does make a big difference in a noisy 802.11 enviroment, i don’t know ifit will make much difference against canopy or not (the signal modulation is different and may or may not trigger the CSMA wait funtion), but if you have a bunch of other 802.11 equipment in range (or even just detectable), it makes a huge improvment

normis, maybe clean up this thread a bit and set as sticky?
