DNS Record Type Request

I wish to add CNAME, MX, TXT records.
Current version is support only A record.

MikroTik RouterOS is not advanced DNS server, you have to use specific DNS server for such tasks.

why not?
why we cant use forward lookup zones and other advanced dns feachur in mikrotik when you can add it easily. just use another free linux feachure in new version of mikrotik. in new test package like ntp package and sntp feachure.
thank you so much

I agree that MikroTik RouterOS should support record type. Including CNAME, MX, NS and if possible SRV and PTR records.
We understand this is not advanced DNS server, but this is small feature that is very useful for SOHO environment in various small companies.

+1
I use a whole special PC (+ UPS & switch) with Linux & tinydns for that important task… but this is MINI-task and totally overkill for my up to 10 lines of DNS config. Would be great feature to little Mikrotik boxes.

Not as simple but I think metarouter + openwrt could replace your linux box if that’s all it does.

+1 for advanced DNS server

1+ for define max connection limit to dns cache request (actualy static defined to 100)

As long as it isn’t tile platform…

+1 on this.

In an SMB where setting up a dedicated box or VM instance to handle DNS records is a chore, and makes delegating maintenance more difficult, this would truly make life easier.

The primary selling point of this router for me, is that the web interface allows me to hand off small admin tasks to someone who is not a seasoned Unix administrator.

Since I run stealth / split DNS, I need to include a sole MX record internally. Not being able to do this makes the DNS server feature useless, as well as marginalizing the gains of having a friendly web interface.

I’d ask that if anyone from Dev / Management is listening, that you please consider implementing this functionality, as I believe it would be of great benefit to quite a few people.

Thank you!

+1 for advanced DNS server

I love mikrotik and I use it every day but standard DNS feature is simply poor.
I definitely need built-in advanced DNS in new ROS.

Or multicore powerpc…

But in light of the newest DNS amplification attacks, having manageable zones e.g. to disallow recursivity on wan interfaces or allow zone transfers is a must.
And allowing CNAME/MX/SFP entries on a high perfomance router like the CCR series isn’t a unreasonable request.
Bragging with 72 cores, 10Gbit interfaces and full BGP capabilities somehow requires a decent DNS functionality, too.

Anyhow, to expect one to run an standalone DNS system to serve 2-3 small domains and in the same time to provide DNS services to a lan is imho a little overblown.

At least get virtualization support on the higher end models so we could run a secondary virtual OS like OpenWRT.

+1 on that feature, I would really appreciate CNAME record support for apache2 virtual hosts.

+1 for CNAME. I need it! Hope MikroTik hears our wishes.
