I am attempting to install a Nest 3rd Gen Thermostat on my virtual guest wifi AP, 5ghz AC onlyl.
When it attempts to connect, I do not even see an attempt to pull an IP from the dhcp for the vlan nor any communication with the HEX.
When I check the Cap AC, the wifi debug states.
"VisitorWifi: denying assoc to {insert mac address of thermostat}, does not support all basic rates.
What does this mean and is there a work around on the CapAC settings to accommodate for it??
I attempted some troubleshooting which included configuring the basic data rates, in addition to the first 6mps rate, I kept adding the next up rate, one at a time until all were selected.
Still no connection. So not sure what the AP is saying now by its message above, as I selected all the possible basic data rates and had no joy.
Hi, Mkx, thanks I also noticed that late last night, and simply changed the device to access my devices 2.4Ghz network and it connected right away.
I may test later by changing AC to AC/N. Just wonder what I lose on my AC if I include N?
I’m not sure about this. I remember that it used to be a big deal to disable 802.11b if all clients were 802.11g … it had to do with some preamble lengths and if AP supported long ones (802.11b), it reduced capacity even if there were no 802.11b clients around. It could be something similar with AC vs. N. I don’t think you’re loosing more than a few % by not disabling it though …
