Didn’t find any post related to my problem so I’m creating my own topic.
I have replaced ddwrt driven Bufalo wirless router with Mikrotik Router (RB/751U-2HnD), everything is fine and I’m happy with change, but unfortunately I have one issue, and have run out of ideas where to look and what to do.
I have Dreambox connected to one of ethernet interface which is bridged with wireless interface. And sometimes I like to stream some video from Dreambox to mobile phone (android) or laptop (win/linux). Before router change everything worked smoothly, now after change it has issues. It constantly pauses to play stream and starts buffering, after few tries it gives up and disconnects. Same with different players. It looks like there is some problems with throughput or just some gaps.
My question in general is - how to solve this issue?
of course some advise how to troubleshoot will help too
Is the routerboard using the same WiFi channel as the old router? Have you looked at the interfaces screen to see what data rates are present during the streaming?
Have tried wifi same and different channel. Doesn’t help, and I can’t blame overall wifi performance it works fine.
When it actually dose streaming, in WinBox Interface list I can see rx at ethernet and tx at wlan transfer rate at about 1000-1800 kbps.
I can’t see there are some gaps.
Is there some more precise way to measure traffic rate?
Solved easily, I decided these issues, the fact that the channel speed is selected automatically. To watch the video it is not correct, because the video is not a constant flow, and increases sharply when the traffic, image noise on the TV and after a while even throws (dreamboks) The solution is simple, data-rates set by manualy to remove the low-speed (but make sure that the signal will suffice), if N is even needed, and HT chains;
I have tried to stream video trough ethernet, everything woks fine, so indeed the problem is at wifi side.
Tolstii: Interesting idea, but could you please explain in few words how to do that? (if it’s easier for you I can read in russian)
I have played with wireless settings under Data Rates, mainly disabled 1Mbps and Basic rate changed to 2Mbps. But then one client can’t connect access point anymore - NB with internal Atheros adapter running XP on it. It just starts to connect and after about 2 minutes closes connection window without any message, but network isn’t connected, so I suppose there are some incompatibility.
Unfortunately I’m far from networking guru and manual I have found is not verbose enough for me
Maybe there is some client (MAC) specific configuration?
