I have a remote windows 2000 Advanced server that I usually logon to using terminal service.
I have installed the dude on that server and started discovering the network, and it is ok.
The problem is that I cannot see anything on the map (Blank) if I logon through the terminal service.
When connecting to that server using my local console, I can see everything normal.
I think you have got it, Actually I set my client to 32bit colors, but when I logon to the server, I found it set to no more than 256 colors, and you cannot change it.
I have tried other methods to access the server remotly, which allowed me to change the color depth, and it worked.
I don’t know where is the problem, and why dude doesn’t display maps at 256 colors.
I rely mainly on remote desktop in my work, and I hope there is a fix for this issue.
Windows 2000 Server does not do over 256 colors on Terminal Services unless you install Cirtix (or possibly something similar).. The version of RDP that came with Windows Server 2003 was the first to allow over 8-bit color.. do you have low bandwidth from your PC to the server? if not just install the client locally on your machine and connect to the server that way.. that is how I run and it works great..
Thanks “s0kud0” for the technical analysis of the problem, it was helpful.
For the client server issue, this the way I manage now, but in fact I don’t understand why it doesn’t show maps in 256 colors in dude v3.x while it is available in v2.x !
Actually I have tested Dameware mini remote control, and surprisingly it showed the map over 4bit color depth.
Anyway, I really consider this as a minor issue, and it shouldn’t take from the precious time of the dude developers whom I thank them very much and greatly value their work.
